Today after work I had so much to do! I went to Michael's before I taught my class so I could take advantage of our 50% off .
came home had to cook, clean up you know the daily stuff when all of a sudden while cleaning my knives...................... yes
I sliced my finger open.I ran into the bathroom my 6 year old daughter was trying to put a band aid on my very bloddy finger. She was awesome. Then I ran around in circles freaking out. Called my sister~ like I didn't know what to do . I Called my neighbor who drove me to the ER!! URGGGGHHHHH I have 4 stiches on my pointer finger.I am not suppose to work for 10days. I work in a dental office. This also means no cake decorating . I am supposed to bake on Thurs & Friday for our schools Halloween Fun Night. 12 cakes. How am I gonna do this now?
what am I gonna do now?? I refuse to go to safeway!
Thanks for listening!
Michelle
Oh no!! I am sorry you are going thru this... I hope everything turns out ok for you!! I know how you feel (except without stiches). I am scratching like crazy and trying to get 42 cupcakes done...(But might I add, I AM washing after every scratch ) GL to you
Hugs,
Beth
Michelle,
I totally sympathize with you. I broke my arm this time last year. I had my arm at a 90 degree angle with a cast from the tips of my fingers all the up to my arm pit. And I had major cakes to do for halloween and stuff. I thought I was gonna have to cancel and I felt horrible. But I have a friend who does cake as well and he kindly stepped in for me (of course he got all the money) but he did all my orders on top of all of his. so maybe you can find a friend to help you out.
I hope you get to feeling better.
Jenn
Try using the thin surgical gloves.
Watch out...don't want to add alot of pressure, might break open the stitches.
Wow...what a nightmare....maybe someone is trying to tell you that you need a break. Sorry...just trying to look at the bright side?. What a brave little girl you have! Maybe this was the turning point in her life that will make her want to become a doctor!
Hope you feel better....
Thanks Guys, Yes, adven68.I have been told I need to slow down!!
I do a lot but my kids are my drive and I do it for them.
Since I have peopple ofering to help me I don't think I will be slowing down
All will be good in 10 days
Have a great week
Michelle
The surgical gloves are a great idea. But, there is another item on the market that might work as well. They're called "finger cots", it's kind of like a condom for your finger. They come like a dozen to the box, and should be available at your local pharmacy. Good luck, I just hope you still have enough flexibility in your finger to even try to decorate this week!
I ordered a box of cots today!! I work in a dental office so I have had my hand in a glove all day
Michelle
It's Thursday nite and I was just wondering if you were heavy into baking? How's the finger working for you? If you're like me, I know you're getting those cakes made no matter what it takes!
OMG!! I had to go back to the ER today because my arm was swollen from the tetnus shot . I have an infection in my arm. I have been a mess all day . haven't even started baking yet! I have been in so much pain. I figured best if I wait til the antibiotics kick in before I start. But I will start in the morning. and I will get them done.
Thanks for thinking of me. your tooo sweet
Michelle
Oh my goodness, poor you! Geesh, it never rains but it pours! Ouch, and that tetanus shot alone can really make your arm stiff and ache for several days.
Hope you get feeling better soon! Geesh, maybe we need to start a Cake Decorator's Disability Insurance?
Hugs Squirrelly Cakes
Oh, gosh! I feel for you! Don't push yourself, though...sounds like you've had your fair share...and then some. Take care of yourself first right now so you can get back to taking care of everyone else.
My mother, who is a nurse, always tells me when I am sick or injured, that it's time to heal.....all else can wait. It's disappointing, but please rest and take it easy. The infection could get serious...your body is asking you to slow down.
I thought the doctor's told you not to work for 10 days. Even if you could cover your stitches, I don't think it's a great idea to put that much stress or pull on your stitches. No matter what plans you had. I would suggest you take it slow, girl.
I feel your pain! I was doing a wedding cake a few years ago when I slipped cutting dowel rods and cut a huge gash in hand....luckily it was my left and and wasn't over the cake. I went to 2 ERs before I found a sympathetic triage nurse (who was getting married in 3 months) who understand the crisis...she took be back ahead of the others waiting (sorry folks), got me fixed up and I rushed back home and made my 18 yr son turn the cake while I finished decorating it. I then had to deliver the cake with my hand all bandaged up - the looks on their faces was priceless!
Take care, take it easy and I promise one day you'll look back on this and laugh!
Och..that smartz! Take it easy for a little bit, in the long run, you will be glad you did!!
I'm so sorry to hear that your bad week turned worse! I hope that after this you can take a break now! I hope you get to feeling better
