Today after work I had so much to do! I went to Michael's before I taught my class so I could take advantage of our 50% off thumbs_up.gif .
came home had to cook, clean up you know the daily stuff when all of a sudden while cleaning my knives...................... yes icon_eek.gif
I sliced my finger open.I ran into the bathroom my 6 year old daughter was trying to put a band aid on my very bloddy finger. She was awesome. Then I ran around in circles freaking out. Called my sister~ like I didn't know what to do icon_confused.gif . I Called my neighbor who drove me to the ER!! URGGGGHHHHH I have 4 stiches on my pointer finger.I am not suppose to work for 10days. I work in a dental office. This also means no cake decorating thumbsdown.gif . I am supposed to bake on Thurs & Friday for our schools Halloween Fun Night. 12 cakes. How am I gonna do this now? icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif
what am I gonna do now?? I refuse to go to safeway!
Thanks for listening!

Maybe there's a way you can "bag" your finger icon_smile.gif...?

Michelle,
I totally sympathize with you. I broke my arm this time last year. I had my arm at a 90 degree angle with a cast from the tips of my fingers all the up to my arm pit. And I had major cakes to do for halloween and stuff. I thought I was gonna have to cancel and I felt horrible. But I have a friend who does cake as well and he kindly stepped in for me (of course he got all the money) but he did all my orders on top of all of his. so maybe you can find a friend to help you out.
I hope you get to feeling better.
Jenn

Try using the thin surgical gloves.

Watch out...don't want to add alot of pressure, might break open the stitches. thumbsdown.gif

Wow...what a nightmare....maybe someone is trying to tell you that you need a break. Sorry...just trying to look at the bright side?. What a brave little girl you have! Maybe this was the turning point in her life that will make her want to become a doctor!

Hope you feel better....

The surgical gloves are a great idea. But, there is another item on the market that might work as well. They're called "finger cots", it's kind of like a condom for your finger. They come like a dozen to the box, and should be available at your local pharmacy. Good luck, I just hope you still have enough flexibility in your finger to even try to decorate this week!

It's Thursday nite and I was just wondering if you were heavy into baking? How's the finger working for you? If you're like me, I know you're getting those cakes made no matter what it takes! icon_wink.gif

Oh my goodness, poor you! Geesh, it never rains but it pours! Ouch, and that tetanus shot alone can really make your arm stiff and ache for several days.
Hope you get feeling better soon! Geesh, maybe we need to start a Cake Decorator's Disability Insurance?

Oh, gosh! I feel for you! Don't push yourself, though...sounds like you've had your fair share...and then some. Take care of yourself first right now so you can get back to taking care of everyone else. icon_wink.gif

My mother, who is a nurse, always tells me when I am sick or injured, that it's time to heal.....all else can wait. It's disappointing, but please rest and take it easy. The infection could get serious...your body is asking you to slow down.

I thought the doctor's told you not to work for 10 days. Even if you could cover your stitches, I don't think it's a great idea to put that much stress or pull on your stitches. No matter what plans you had. I would suggest you take it slow, girl.

I feel your pain! I was doing a wedding cake a few years ago when I slipped cutting dowel rods and cut a huge gash in hand....luckily it was my left and and wasn't over the cake. I went to 2 ERs before I found a sympathetic triage nurse (who was getting married in 3 months) who understand the crisis...she took be back ahead of the others waiting (sorry folks), got me fixed up and I rushed back home and made my 18 yr son turn the cake while I finished decorating it. I then had to deliver the cake with my hand all bandaged up - the looks on their faces was priceless!

Take care, take it easy and I promise one day you'll look back on this and laugh!
