Does anyone have any ideas on how to make wheels for cinderella's carriage, besides using cookies.
Some way to make it look like the vines for the spokes?

Would you consider moulding fondant into wheel shaped vines? Will they have to bear any weight or simply a decoration? You could easily shape a long thin piece of fondant into a circle and add a few leaves...paint it green...etc...

Check out the king cake in Adven68's photos. The gumpaste curlicues would be perfect.

I'm not sure what look you're going for, but could you use cupcakes, turned on their side, you could attach them with toothpick or dowelrod if you needed to. I hope this helps.

I made the Cinderella carriage for my daughter's 4th birthday. I tried the cookies in the Wilton book, but they just didn't turn out like I wanted. So I went to Hobby Lobby in the Dollhouse department and found some great wooden carriage wheels. I will post the picture so you can see what I am talking about. I liked the look much better.

Are you looking for a way to make the wheels "see through" like real carriage wheels? I made a pram (old fashioned baby buggy) cake. I cut out circles out of clear plastic deli container lids, then piped on the spokes of the wheels with royal icing and wrapped the rim with a strip of fondant for the treads.

take a look...

Is this what you are trying to achieve for Cinderella's carriage? Hope this helps. icon_biggrin.gif

Wow those ideas are great, I don't need to do them until around the 5th or 6th of November so I think I'll play around with a few of the ideas and see which works best. They don't have to support anything and I would kind of like them to be "see through" but I am very new to all of this so I'll see what happens! ( may end up just buying some, thanks kerri!)
Thanks Everyone!

Your idea with the deli lids...now, that is what I call clever! Great idea!

what about making them out of chocolate or candy melts?

Chocolate or candy melts will work as long as they are solid throughout, not just the spokes and treads that you could see though the wheels. They will be way too fragile. If you try the candy melts/chocolate on the clear plastic deli lids I don't thinks it will stick to the plastic. I haven't tried it but chemistry tells me it won't work very well. Worth a try for an experiment sometime to find out for future reference.
