Can I use Wilton paste to paint on a fondant cake or do I need to make a paint out of petal or luster dust?

If paste color, will it dry?

Also how do you paint something and then give it a wet look....?

(Questions brought up by the spooky cake challenge the other night!)

I don't have an airbrush but would like to get into trying to hand paint either designs on a cake or decorations.

Hi there...you can use all of the abive to paint on Fondant...
use paste or gel colors with (literally) a drop of vodka (or any clear alcohol), mix it on a plate and paint with a brush....

or.....use luster dust....you can brush it on dry for sparkle, or you can add a drop of vodka, make a thin paste and paint it on for a more opaque look.
I remember them mentioning what you can add to make it look shiny, but it's not coming to me right now....

Also...even if you don't have an airbrush...Wilton spray colors are fantastic!!! I even apply these with a brush sometimes....just spray a little on a small plate and brush on. If it dries...which it will, quickly...just add a drop of Vodka! Love that Vodka!!

I just painted the eyes on my little car cake yesterday. The eyes didn't quite get dry, they were a little tacky to the touch.

The rest of it I kind of dry brushed with a little coloring and a little lemon extract. It looked shiny after doing that but not super shiny.

Have fun, it's not hard!
