Whipped Cream For Decorating
Decorating By a_blonde_betty_boop Updated 25 Oct 2005 , 1:17am by CranberryClo
Someone told me that you could frost and decorate with whipped cream in the tub.....so for my mom and dad's anniversary cake I decided to try it. It frosted it fine....but then when i went to put my shell border on....it wasn't stiff enough but it did ok.....then I went to do my writing and the whipped cream started having a lot of moisture It tasted ok but it didn't look the best in the world. The reason I was trying something other than buttercream is because I don't really care for the sweetness. I am most definitely going back to buttercream.....I guess you live and learn
When I used whipped cream icing, I don't use the tub whipped cream (like Cool Whip), I used the heavy whipping cream in the milk section and whip it with confectioners sugar...that way you can get your desired sweetness. The heavy cream whips up nice and stiff.
a_blonde_betty_boop, I had same problem with my one cake. But I love whipped cream. So I have to do work with it.
I tried as delectablecakes said but I added little bit corn-starch (for stiffness) in that and it worked well.
And test was also good.
Thanks

Hey Betty Boop -
I'm new to cake decorating so maybe this is common sense but try adding a bit more salt to your icing. I can't stand how sweet the buttercream recipe from Wilton is - I add at least twice the salt and it really seems to cut it without being salty either.
Good luck!
