Stacked Bc Cake No Mess Ups

O.K. I have stacked many a buttercream wedding cake. Every time I stack them onsite of the wedding, I end up with fingermarks where the trim should be. I usually cover it with the trim, but sometimes they want a small trim and I don't want to have to take the time fixing the messed up part. I wish there were another way. Anyone know?
I leave my dowels (the plastic Wilton kind) sticking up some .. I have time to get my fingers out of the way before it lowers completely
In addition to what was suggested, I use two spatulas (egg lifters) or icing spatulas to transfer the cake onto the lower one. Some folks use a pizza paddle to lift it onto the lower cake.

I Use spatula's! I have 2 small ones from Pampered chef I like to use. #1becasue they are small easy to handle and #2the spatula is small and I don't have a lot to manuver. and when I am having trouble I yell for my sweet husband to come to my rescue

Heehee, yes, when doing a stacked cake it is always helpful to have an extra pair of hands available and eyes, isn't it?
