I made two double-batches of buttercream this afternoon before I realized I had grabbed the container of gum tex instead of the meringue powder. Yikes! Are they ruined? Or will they be OK? Anybody know?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

I found this in an article, so I'd have to say throw it out...

Wilton's Gum-Tex is made from karaya, an inferior substitute for tragacanth. I only use this for decorations that won't touch the inside cake at all, because although Wilton says Gum-Tex is safe, it's "not recommended for consumption," according to an email I received from them when I asked about it. Gum-Tex works better than nothing, but it makes modelling paste that stays soft much longer than paste made with tragacanth, making building difficult.

Think gum-tex would work for hot sugar molds?
