Hi everyone, I had a cake decorating supplier make me a copy of the edibable Dora and when I damp the backing with paper towel prior to putting it on the cake it went find on. But when I put the cake in the refrigerator just for one day with dome cover on cake and transported the cake to car, I notice that there was condensation under the dome cover and the Dora had air bubbles under its picture, don't know what cause this and I had to wipe all moisture from under dome cover so that color decors, such as borders would not run. Of cause I forgot to tort both layers, but was such in a rush and could not think stright and it was getting late and I just could not keep my eyes open, so I ended my task. icon_redface.gif But my family and children were all impressed by the outcome of the cake. I'll should you pics of this cake. Question I have also, what if a pic you really don't want as part of the cake gallery is there any way to omit those pics that you don't want to go to the gallery? and if so, how do I go about doing it. Thank you so very much and hope I did not confuse anyone.

WATER? I thought it was a little clear karo that you brushed on the back to adhere to the cake..and that you did the same to the frong to make it "MELT" onto the cake...

Or was that piping gel?? but water?? wouldn't that dissolve the rice paper???

I was told by the cake decorating supplier in my area that I should moistening the back of the Dora, but not too wet, which I did, but that is all the person told me. I don't really know any other method to use, perhaps maybe someone else might know, do u think? Cause I'm going to be doing more of these and even consider of getting my own printer so that I can do them myself. Thanks for your help. icon_smile.gif

You can attach the pic in the forum without it showing in the gallery.

Was the image on rice paper or a frosting sheet? Rice paper does sometimes bubble and wrinkle especially when it comes in contact with water or icing that has a high water content like whipped cream.

Frosting sheets will also bubble if the cake wasn't completely cooled before it was applied or if the cake is kept airtight and warm...I've even had it happen airtight at room temp.

You can prevent frosting sheets from bubbling by making sure the cake is completely cooled before frosting it and applying the image. You also don't want to store these cakes airtight trapping in moisture or in a place where it might be warm (the images get shiny or bubble when stored this way). I store mine refrigerated in a cake box loosely covered with plastic wrap.

Hi Lisa, thank you so very much for the tip(s) and your help. I used whipped cream icing and cake was cool as well as kitchen, but did not know about useing plastic wrap, will try that method next time. The plastic cake cover was loosely on, cause the cake was too high for me to even close the box, so I had no choice but to leave lose. The rice paper did indeed bubble and wrinkle, but I agree with what you were saying and I have learned something that I did not know. Should I just use a damp paper towel on back of rice paper image and place on dry cool cake right a way, but I don't have to smooth image on cake, is that correct? Lisa, how do you attached the pics to the forum after I download the pics on cd? Do I copy and paste to forum. Thanks again for all your help. icon_smile.gif

I don't work with rice paper a lot. I mostly use it as small templates and frost over it. I would think one way to use it would be in the same way frosting sheets are applied...on a freshly frosted cake before the icing crusts. Smooth it into the icing and it should soften but it won't disolve like a frosting sheet would. I've never heard of needing to apply any kind of water to it before applying unless you're steaming it to get it to curl (when making leaves and stuff). I think the problem was the whipped cream icing more than anything else though.

To attach a pic in the forum...reply to this and look under where you'd type your reply. There is a section that reads Add an Attachment. Browse your files and select the pic you want to attach. Write a comment if you want and then hit submit.
