I'm going to try MMF for the first time today. But I have a question. I got the recipe off of this website, but it doesn't say how many cakes it will cover. I have a 6" a 10" and a 14" to cover, plus the entire cake will be covered with fondant leaves and the toppers on all three cakes are also fondant leaves. Does anybody know how much I should make, or if I make too much how should I store it and how long can it be stored for? Thanks!
I covered an 12" square and an 8" square with one recipe of the MMF .. it all depends on how thick or thin you roll it ... for those 2 cakes, I rolled it kind of thinner so I'd have enough with just one recipe mix ...
For what you're wanting to cover, it will take 2 or 3 recipes... If you have any drapes or extras on the cake, it will certainly take 3 recipes....
just a not, don't roll the 14" too thin ... it's better to have it a bit thicker since you're using such a large piece .. remember to dust well under your MMF with cornstarch so it doesn't stick .. good luck and let us know how it turns out
I bought enough marshmallows and conf. sugar to make 4 recipes, just in case. But I didn't want to make too much.
I will definitely make the bottom tier thicker. Thanks for the tips! The wedding is this Saturday so I'll send pictures the next week.
Best of luck and can't wait to see the pictures.. I'm sure it will come out beautifully!!
