You can use the mini doll cake pan or a reg size one.
if you want before you put on fondant you can insert pretzels on the side of the cake to make it look like it's arms are out.

I have done a few in my pics. I use a styrofoam bell shaped piece i got at Jo Ann's. I use gum paste and let dry a couple of days and then remove the styrofoam.

That is pretty much how I did it, only I didn't have stryofoam, I used a piece of foil paper just balled up.. Then I place the whole fondant piece over a salt shaker to keep it's form and left it there for a couple days to dry.. The foil fell right out after the fondant dried. Used food writers for the eyes and mouth.. I have one in my photos..

How long did the fondant ghost take to dry? Does marshmallow fondant take longer to dry than regular fondant? Can you tell I need to make some ghosts for this Friday but I haven't started yet and it's raining like the dickens here? LOL!

I used a cone-shaped piece of styrofoam, covered in fondant. It worked really well!
