I have the 4.5 quart and it is the perfect size for me!! The bigger 6 quart is too big for my countertop. It really is up to you and how much baking and use you will get out of it!!

Thanks that's actually very helpful. I didn't think about the size of the appliance I was jus thinking about the size of the bowl. Good thing to consider.

I have the 4.5 qt here also. It works pretty good, however someday I would like the larger 6qt. With a couple of bowls. I can only do a double batch of frosting and two cake mixes in my current one and sometimes that just isn't enough. But for a majority of what I do right now it is good.

Also I don't have a big enough kitchen to even keep all of my kitchen/decorating things in at the moment so getting larger mixer atm just isn't realistic.

I have the 4.5 quart. If I were to buy another it would be a larger one with drop down bowl. I would say get the nicest largest one you can afford.

good36,
I like the way you think. I need to actually see how much bigger the 6qt is. I have a tiny kitchen and not much storage but for the convenience of making more batches at once I might be able to squeeze it in somewhere I'm sure.

I personally think Wattage is more important than the bowl capacity. It makes no sense having a 6 quart bowl that can hold two batches of batter and a motor that can't mix it or can barely mix it. So having typed that, what's the wattage of the K.A. you are looking at?

My mom was going To buy a K.A. mixer today as a gift for someone. She calls me up and tells me it's 4.5 Q and 300 W. The price was about 200$ or so. I told her she might as well go and buy a hand held mixer. LOL... One of my mixers is a 300 W hand held and it did not cost me 200. So I told her to find a K.A. with higher wattage. The search continues....

I've found that the actual size of the appliance doesn't vary much as it relates to storage they are all big and heavy. what u need to pay attention to is the amount of power it has. you can have several mixers with the same bowl size and different amounts of power. that is why the prices vary so much from retailer to retailer. I have a 4.5 and a "professional" 5 that larger bowl does make a difference for larger batches. (yes, a great DH who never knows what to get me for my B-day so, I happily take mixers) the larger bowls can be frustrating though with smal amounts when the beater doesn't get to the bottom of the bowl. DH has found a great place to get refurbished ones for a fraction of the normal price. When the refurbished one went out the company sent another one even b4 we could pack up and ship out the broken one. PM me if u want the bompany info and I will askhim.

The larger one that I was looking at which is a 6qt is 450 watts.

Good luck on the search princess.

I started out with a 4.5 qt. KA but purchased the 6 qt. shortly thereafter. The 6 qt. holds soooooooo much more batter whereas the 4.5 pretty much limited me to mixing single batches.

The hidden bonus of having two good mixers is that I can make a whole lot of noise all at once. icon_biggrin.gif

450 Watts is pretty decent. I have a professional 5 series KA. It's 450 Watts too. The bowl capacity is only 5 Quarts but like I said. I am more concerned with the power of The mixer than the capacity.

I also have a hand held mixer That's 300 Watts. It's not a K.A. but it works pretty good for quick/small situations.

I think my honey is getting me the 575 Watt 6 Quart K.A. for Christmas. He figures he will get more cookies that way.

I am not the one looking for a mixer btw, it's my mom for a house warming gift.

I have a 4.5 325 and a 6.qt 525 I use them both for different things.
The 6 qt is too big if I am making a 1 cake mix cake. I too have a small kitchen and they and my coffee maker are the only things allowed on the counter. I don't prefer one over the other just love them both.
I am not disappointed with either of them.

I went with the larger one because I rarely do a single batch or even a double batch. If I happen to need a single batch I'll just whip out my hand held.

So that's my reasoning behind it. icon_wink.gif
