Hello all I stumbled across this site and I am so happy I have just recently decided to start decorating cakes for upcoming events, this time of year is "crazy" for our family we have 6 birthdays, 3 themed parties and this year we thought we would throw in 2 baby showers and a trip out of the state for Christmas so we are wondering "what were we thinking"

I am going to bake some mini cakes for my daughters 3rd birthday party is a girls only (incrusted with all things pinkafied) tea party. I bought little mini pans (the ones that remind me of a jello mold) strawberry cake with white frosting and pink crystals cute but plain so I need idea's.

My son's birthday is the one I've had the worst time trying to figure out what to do but I think I found a cake online I would like to try (remind myself: I'm a newbie, I'm a newbi) Take a look at the photo maybe all of you wonderfully talented cake decorators can help me figure out how to do some of the stuff like the gutter drains, the grey roof. The cake will be dark chocolate fudge with whipped cream icing. I've seen alot of cakes in my investigations that you see nothing but the stars (tip #16 or 17 would that be good? (????)

I still havent figured out what kind of cake or theme for the shower thats coming up rather quickly.

As you can tell I'm pretty much ????, I'm sorry. Thanks a bunch thou.

An idea for the baby shower is to bake a sheet cake and decorate it simple like shell border and such..... in the center of the cake place a baby laying down and make a blanket over the baby. Really cute and simple. I did that for a friend's baby shower and her heart melted.

For my daughters 3rd birthday we did pink (she is sure she is a REAL princess!) So I put tiaras on the cake...she loved it! Hope this will help some. Keli

Hey closeknitfamily--
Try using pretzels dipped in candy melts to make gutter drains, if you don't want to use rolled fondant. And for the grey roof-- frost with grey frosting and used crushed oreos to give it that gravelly look. HTH--Pam
