How would you all price this cake? It's the "Super Enhanced" chocolate with chocolate mousse filling, iced with buttercream and fondant accents. The bears are molded from modeling paste. I'm pretty new to this and wanted to get some outside opinions of what a cake like this might be worth?

What a beautiful cake!

First of all, how big are your layers?

Just by looking at it, not knowing exactly how big it is, I would say that you could easily charge $75 for that cake.

No, I didn't freehand. I used a font from my computer and then used my SugarVeil pen to trace it. I then applied it to the cake.

Thanks for the price advice everyone. Your prices are what I had in mind.

Your cake is brilliant! Very detailed and neat. I am unfamiliar with the SugarVeil pen - can you explain that to me. I would love to trace certain fonts on a cake but don't know of the technique you used. Can you let me know??

Thank you so much.

You can also use a regular bag with the SugarVeil icing. That would enable you to use the same technique of choosing your fonts and tracing them and then placing them on the cake. There's also a recipe for a SugarVeil-like icing on CC somewhere that you could make yourself. I'd certainly try that route if you can't afford the system right now. I'll try and find the link to the recipe.

I have the Sugarveil pen and icing and have used it for the same thing - to make neat, perfect writing. I originally bought it because I thought it might make piping easier - I really need practice on that - but I haven't used it as much as I thought I would. One thing that is very useful about the pen is the fact that you can use it to pick up small pearls and attach them to your cake. This is very helpful if you are adding lots of pearls for an intricate design or a border around a cake.

By the way - your cake is beautiful!!! Outstanding job!!

Here's how I would break it down:
8" Round = $20
6" Round = $15
Mousse Filling = $10 (2 tiers, $5/tier)
Fondant Accents = $10
Bear Toppers = $15

So that gives me a price of $70. I find that if I break a cake down into parts, it helps me itemize the costs for the clients.

I love that cake. I agree with at least $75. You have alot of work invested in it and it is not just a buttercream filling.

Where i work we would charge 1.75 a slice. For a 6" and 8" this would be $68.25. We would then charge $10 for filling and $25 for the fondant work making the cake $103.25. It's very cute. Great job!

I didn't realize it was in the "disaster" forum. I guess if this is a "disaster," I only have successes to look forward to.
