I saw your cake last night and it's really cute...Can I ask how much you are charging to make them?
I have the house pan also and was thinking I might make some at Christmas themed ones to sell.

I don't know how much too charge...I told them I would get back to them today on the price..I don't want to over charge nor under charge. I talked it over with hubby and he said do it free obviously he has no clue..maybe since I know most of the people I thought maybe $25. Does that sound fair enough?

Get your receipts out and figure out how much materials cost first of all. You can be nice and still cover your costs. I think $25 sounds like a deal for sure.

I'm making things for practise and learning techniques so I've sold 2 things just for material costs at this point but if I can get good like you, I would definitely charge more. Your time is valuable.

You did a wonderful job on that cake! The cauldron is very clever!

Pricing cakes is something that I think most of us struggle with here....all the time! I know I do. I am beginning to learn to value my time as well. You said this cake took you 8 hours to do and you have 5 orders for it? At $25.00/cake you are way too low. I was talking to a specialty cake store in my area and they said the worse thing that any home baker can do is to under price themselves. People will always remember what they paid for your cakes so going up will be difficult. Makes sense....not always easy to follow, I'm the worst at that. Like TickledPink said, look at your receipts and go from there however $25 seems way too low for such a nice, unique, you-are-never-gonna-find-that-anywhere-else kinda cake.

I totally agree. I would charge at least $30-$40 for just the house pan cake, without all of the additions you have made. I know a lot depends on where you live, but the time factor is the most important one, after costs. I would think you are looking at anywhere from $40-$60 at least for this cake.

i agree on the price,,,,heck for $25.00 i'd have you make me one!! thats too much work and not enough money!!!!!! charge more, and if they say its too much...no sweat because you've saved yourself 5 hours of work. i would do them kinda like an assembly line so you could get done a bit faster. but i would personally charge at least $35.00 and i am from the mid west...where i cant charge as much as other places.
good luck!

Glad to hear it! You don't want to put yourself into a position where you are working yourself too hard for less than peanuts! After awhile you will get burnt out and resent it.
