Hi,

I am going to do a little cake decorating class for my daughters girl scout troop. Any suggestions on how it should be done? I was wondering if I should let them frost the cake and decorate it or should I frost them and let them do just the decorating? Time is not an issue because we are doing it on a Friday when there is no school. Thanks for any suggestions.

How old are the girls? I am working with the Daisies this year (5 and 6 year olds). For that age, I would definitely frost the cakes first. My six year old is pretty good with decorating bags but I have to twist the top of the bag and place a clothespin on top since her hand isn't big enough to prevent the frosting from oozing out the top.
Great idea by the way. thumbs_up.gif

Got anymore girl scout craft ideas you'd like to share??

That sounds like a great idea...The Wilton Instructor that I took classes from this summer did several cake classes for kids. I think she had them bring in an iced cake, but they were dealing with a time frame....I bet your girls are going to love this project. Have fun!!

I think even daisies are old enough to frost their own cakes. My daughter is only 3 and she does a pretty good job....and that is such fun for them. Why don't you have your cake in front and show them how to frost. Give them each a mini cake and let them go to it!

If wilton stills has it on thier site, they have a Section that is Called something like Kids Cakes or Cakes for kids, you will have to search. It has little lesson plans and templates. I would suggest using that. Their ideas could be used for small cakes, CC or cookies..

I found what cakeconfections is talking about. Thanks for the heads-up on that. thumbs_up.gif
It's based for 9 years-olds and up for 90 minutes. Includes certificates you can print up.
