I answered th DH versus PB or BC. But waht I really think makes the biggest differance in a cake mix is the eggs. Yes the eggs. My brother brings me fresh eggs when he remembers to stop. When I use store eggs, instead of fresh, my cakes are more on the dry crumbly side and don't bake as even. Has anyone bought brown store bought eggs? They are pricey just wondered if anyone uses them.

I use brown eggs from my parents mini-farm. There's nothing like them. Really great for baking and I think they do make a difference.

People I know seem to like the PB cakemix cause I think it has the most traditional birthday cake flavor. I'm a city girl and eggs come from the grocery store. I honestly have no idea what people are talking about when they discuss dry cakes. Any cakemix I've ever used turned out supermoist. DH has a weird aftertaste to me, but mainly I don't like it because it is so wet.

There is one store brand chocolate that is very good. I bought it last Thanksgiving cause I couldn't decide which of the 5 varieties of chocolate namebrand cakemix to buy. icon_razz.gif

Stylishbite - I buy brown eggs from the store. I don't have access to fresh eggs, but try to go with the cage free brown eggs. Yes, they are more expensive, but I'm trying to be animal sensitive.

I read that brown and white eggs are no different it is just one from a chicken and one from a hen. I tried them both and I taste no difference. I love DH versus anyother cake mix. It comes out supermoist. I will try others since everyone is doing good with them all. icon_razz.gif

You city folk "crack" me up! Coming from a WV girl-a chicken and a hen are the same thing. White eggs and Brown eggs come from different breeds of chicken. My grandmother raised both kinds and yes there is a difference between the taste. If I were staying the night with grandma when I was little I always wanted pancakes for breakfast. I did not like the taste of brown eggs-plain. Baked in something was much better.
There is nothing like going out and gathering the eggs for homemade bread or a cake. yummy OK now you have made me miss grandma!!

I only use fresh eggs from the farm down the street from me. They are the best. I also only use DH as I find it to be the best. Keep in mind that the difference in climate in different parts of the country makes things vary in the confection world.

I guess I am A city girl and I have used white eggs, brown eggs both store bought and fresh from the farm. And in all honest it makes absolutely NO difference at all. My cakes never turn out dry.

As for the which is better the white or brown egg my mom swears by brown eggs I instinctively buy white eggs. She claims brown egg chickens are fed better. I try to tell her it's all about the genetics.

I think if your cake is turning out dry it's not the colour of eggshell. Are you using large eggs? Is your oven too hot?

On another note does anyone else get the eggs with the 2 yolks? OMG they Are so good. I love making scrambled eggs with them. I think I pay about $3.50 a dozen for them. Sooooooooo worth it.

I buy brown eggs in the fall and up through til the end of spring.... then I get store bought eggs in the summer...
My cakes turn out the same no matter which egg I use...but as far as eating goes.... I prefer the taste of brown eggs over the white ones when fried or scrambled...brown is better...

It would be interesting to do a blind taste test to see if people can Really tell the difference between a brown egg and white egg. Kinda like the pepsi challenge

I am weird! Yes I will be the first to admit it! I can even pick out the red MM out of the pack with my eyes closed! Brown eggs just taste stronger to me. I guess it is what you like. I really don't like eggs to begin with and I guess that is why a stronger taste is different to me.

LOL I wonder if brown chickens taste different too icon_biggrin.gif Red MnM's have a bitter taste to them I find. And I can tell the difference between brand name cereal and their knock off counterparts. I Can tell the difference between 7 UP, Sprite and Sierra Mist. But I have yet to taste the difference between a white and A brown egg. I think I am gonna have to ship my super sensitive taste buds back for an upgrade icon_biggrin.gif

I can tell the difference between Mom's eggs and the eggs from the grocery store. The taste is stronger. I don't know if it's because they're brown or farm-raised or free range or fed differently or fresher...but there is a difference. I've never had brown eggs from the grocery store though so I can't say it's just because they're brown that they taste different.
