I was asked to make a cake for July 2006 the mother of the bride said for 350 people. Now we live in a small city (most people call it a town). If she is sending out invites for 350 chances are she WON'T need that much cake! So when she askes and arangements are made how much do I recomend? for 250. Do we wait untill the wedding is 2 monthes away then decide? I dont want to sell more than they need just for the $. I like to decorate and want to keep it that way. If $ comes before the joy then I'm done. What do I suggest to them?

I know what you mean.. But some brides are more than sure that everyone will show.. Suggest it and just say " I recommend enough cake for 250, only being that not everyone likes cake and sometimes some guest cannot show". If she is sure she will need it all, just say" ok that is fine, It's your day and I am here to make you happy!". Suggest making a decision now. Get a contract going, ask for a deposit!!! Let her know that it will ease her mind that this is one thing off of her list.. Good Luck!

and make sure they understand they have to pay the full amount even if they don't eat it all, LOL. Sound ridiculous?

This happend to my friend. First I don't know why she didn't get the money upfront. But this bride and her mother wanted cake for 250 people (I can't remember exact number) but only had 100 people invited to the wedding. My friend told her this was too much cake but she insisted.

Then day of wedding my friend delivered the cake and the servers didn't show up so they asked her to stay which she did. After the wedding she goes to collect payment for the cake and the mother of the bride tells her well, we only ate 100 servings cake so I am only paying for that.

WHAT!!??? My friend informed her it didn't matter, that was why she told them it was too much cake in the first place and she had to pay the entire amount. -this was actually the last wedding cake my friend did. She was fed up with it.

Best wishes and I hope all goes well. : ) I am sure it will be fine, who in their right mind would actually think you didn't have to pay for the uneaten part, LOL.

Did your friend have a contract for the wedding cake? That's very sad she Was taken advantage of like that.
