I have a question...after much searching this past week for an edible image...I have decided to get a printer and do it myself...LOL But I have no idea what type of printer to use. For those of you who print your own edible images, what type of printer do you use? Where do you get your ink? TIA

You can get all the equipment for a lot less money by buying them separately. You need a Canon printer (most of us on CC have the IP 1500 or the IP 3000) that is dedicated to the edible inks. Mine came from Amazon.com for about $50, a friend just got one on eBay for about $60 with shipping, there are several sources for the printer. Then you go to Sugarcraft or Kopykakes for your wafer sheets, ink cartridges, head cleaners, etc. I think everything you need would be under $200. Janice

I got my printer from Amazon and the ink (ink cartridges, ink kit refill and cleaning cartridges) and I ordered edible image frosting sheets from KopyKake .. both shipped really fast .. good luck and let us know when you try out your first image..

P.S. BTW, I don't know if you deal with humidity and higher temps, but if so, put the image in the freezer for a few mins.. when it hardens, it will pop up off the backing sheet really easy .. I never could get mine to peel for me at all unless I did this .. others on here have no problems w/theirs peeling ... I think it's all to do w/the heat/humidity here though good luck!!

We bought the printer they recommended....Canon...but didn't buy it from them...I think we got our from amazon as well. We bought the ink and image paper from them though.

I think it's an IP3000 Canon. I went w/this model because I won't be using it a lot and I think it's all I'll ever need to use

I have the canon ip3000...it is a 4 cartridge ink printer. I love it and use it quite frequently. I also order my supplies from Kopykake.

my birthday is next month, I think I will break out the credit card and treat myself to an early gift! It's cheap enough to replace the system that I left behind when I moved down from Pennsylvania.

You're very welcome veejaytx I tore quite a few of them myself.. I think it's a combination of heat/humidity down here that we have to deal with but popping it into the freezer for a few minutes works like a charm

Ok ..I am bummed.... I have searched everywhere for the printers that are suggested for the edible photos..and it seems that they have been discontinued???? If anyone knows what other options I have, please let me know...TIA

Try Best Buy. I just purchased my Canon from them. It was fifty bucks. I bought online and picked up at a store nearby, saved on the shipping this way. It was actually ready for pickup within an hour of ordering on line and selecting 'pickup at store' option. I bought my ink and sheets from Kopy Kake. I bought all this stuff in August and just now printed my first image. Worked great. I had a small tear but now know to freeze for a couple of minutes to stiffen up the paper.

Please be aware of the thieves on Ebay...there's a guy selling new printers for $50.00 with the buy it now feature.....BUT the shipping is also $50.00!!! Make sure you check the shipping before you bid! Others have $25.00 shipping charge + a mandatory $5.00 insurance. Who in the world are they shipping with????...

I'm so glad I ran across this because I, just this weekend, was doing research online about getting the supplies for printing my own edible images. I did some search on ebay but the deals were just too good to be true. I found a Canon printer with supplies for $25.00!!! I'll try Amazon and see what they have. Only problem I have though is my DH thinks edible images on cakes make the cake look cheap and he feels that I'd be taking the easy way out on decorating cakes so I'd have to really come up with a convincing reason to buy it.

Last time I checked Best Buy was sold out and Amazon was too (except for those listed with the sellers associated with them).

Amy--just show your husband some of the wonderful cakes done by members here. He'll see that they don't look cheap at all but can actually make decorating a cake easier, faster and very creative.

Now, I'm pretty sure that when I called Icing Images, they said that the the 6 cartridge printer was not as practical. Or maybe someone else said it??

I purchased my Canon IP3000 on eBay for $30. Yes, you to research the different vendors and check shipping prices, but wouldn't you do that anyway?

To call people thieves is a bit extreme, when like shopping anywhere, it's up to us to be smart shoppers.

I bought by food color cartridges, refill kit and paper from Icing Images online. My whole system with supplies cost less than $100.

I've used my system for over a year now with no problem.

Maybe I was just having bad luck. I'll try again some day soon.

Ugh..now you post...I went nut's looking for teh IP3000...not one electronic store had it..I ended up with a 6000.

I was told that I could just use the same cartridges as the 3000 that I don't need to use all the cartridges it comes with!

How does the 6000 compare...I have 14 days to take it back!!!
