Hello all I have my first Question, I have a cake to make for next week and I was asked to make a light bulb. I would really like to make a 3-D cake and am not sure how I should go about doing it, my first idea was to use a sports ball pan and put the bulb lying on its side on top of a round. Any ideas??? icon_confused.gif

What type of light bulb? regular? halogen? You could use The wonder Mold pan and just carve it a bit. Especially for the halogen type lightbulb.

I woule stack three 6 inches....them place the sports ball pan on top of that you may have to cut a small piece of the bottom of the round so it doesnt roll off...... but that a way of get it to stand up.....

If you have any of the mini cake pans , or anything that would make a sort of tube, you could use your ball pan, and make a couple of the smallest of the mini pans (2" or 3") for the base of the bulb, then carve the ball a little to fit to the pieces. You'd have to cut a slice off the ball to make it lay flat, that way the base pieces could rest on the board too. Hope that makes sense. Janice

I am wondering if maybe the mini 3D egg might be easier to shape. You would probably have to cute some off and then shape the rest with some cake pieces. You could stack this on top of another round or sheet cake. I know that really probably did not make sense...but it is kind of hard to put into words. Maybe someone else can come up with a better plan! Good luck! icon_smile.gif

If you do not have cake supply store in your area...you can purchase online. You can do a search for a 3D mini egg pan. I believe it is made by Wilton. Wilton also sells a large 3D egg. I hope you will post pics so we can see how it turns out! icon_smile.gif
