Creme Bouquet icing on choc. cake?

I have been wanting to try adding creme bouquet flavored icingto my next cake. Well it just so happens that I have an order for a 1/2 white, 1/2 chocolate cake.

Since I have never worked with Creme Bouwuet before, I don't know what it really tastes like. Will it's falvor go well with the chocolate cake? I also want to drizzle ganache over the sides of the cake. Will it work or should I leave out the Creme Bouquet and try it at another time?

Wow! That was full of typos! I guess I was a little distracted with my 14 month old while typing that and it shows.


Can anyone give me their opinion?

Creme Bouquet is kind of lemony flavored. Somebody (JennT or TC maybe) compared it to lemon icebox pie. Doesn't seem like it would go particularly well with chocolate.

I'd put it off till next time.

I might be in the minority here but for some reason I don't like the taste the creme bouquet gives icing.? icon_confused.gif

I wouldn't do it either. Then again I find the stuff repulsive as well.

That's too bad. I have heard so much good stuff about Creme Bouquet and I have been anxious to try it. I bought it so I will go ahead and use it. I hope I like it.

I use creme bouquet all the time in my icing. I wouldn't say it has any particular flavor, it's a combination and it just adds to the icing. I think it's a flavor you have to try for yourself and see if you like it. I have nothing but compliments about my bc and I use clear vanilla and creme bouquet.

I agree with StephanieFL. I'd never heard of Creme Bouquet until I got some classes at the Culinary Institute in NYC. The chef who gave us the classes swears on it. It's supposed to be a flavors' enhancer. Only one teaspoon in the cake mix and/or the BC icing it's enough to enhance the flavor. Since I tasted it the first time, I've kept using it and the only time I do not use it is when using Grand Marniere, Kahlua or any strong taste liquor. Believe me, I love the flavor combined with Devil's cake or Triple Fudge (YUMMYY). But again, it's a matter of preference. My clients noticed the flavor enhancement almost right away but I have never disclosed what is that I am adding to my cakes. I'll suggest to try it for yourself or with one of your cakes for the family, this way you will be more confidant when using it for customers. HTH

I have used it before but I honestly think it enhances the smell more so than the taste.

I just bought a bottle but I haven't tried it out yet... I was glad to read all the input about it ... it smells really good though icon_smile.gif

Yea! My confidence to try it is back up. I was a bit discouraged there by all the peopel who didn't like it, but I am just goign tohave to try it for myself!

Well, I know creme bouquet has lemon in it but I have heard it described as that "bakery" shop icing smell and taste. That's all I taste. I use the creme b and vanilla.
