Help! I believe I had a recipe from Family Circle magazine back in 2002/2003 that was a picture of an ocean on top of the cake made out of blue jello poured into a cut out area on the cake. It had a boat made out of a twinkie sailing on top and mermaids out of teddy grahams. I made the cake for my sons 3rd Birthday and we wanted to repeat the jello water for a frog/pond theme cake on Saturday. I can't find my recipe anywhere!!! HELP!! Anyone ever do the jello on top? I can't remember how to do it (mixture and so that it doesn't all soak into the cake)

I've never seen the jello water, but you can color piping gel blue and use that for your water.

I don't have the recipe but what if you make the jello and pour it into the cake pan to set. Then, remove frompan and place on top of cake in cut out area? I would imagine you'd have to spray the pan with PAM to make sure the circle comes out whole....may be worth a try if you can't find the recipe???

Here is a link that might help you. She describes how she made a cake with Jello.

it's just like what was described in that thread......jello jiggler recipe ,let it set up a bit until it's a thick gel but not completely set.......hollow out a portion of the cake where you want the "water" frost the inside of the hole.....helps keep the jello from soaking into the cake.....then pour in the jello and pop the cake in the fridge it will firm up nicely!

K, you can just make the jiggler recipe and pour into a low sided sheet pan and "cut' your water. I make my jigglers a little firmer ( actually I make my gelatine from scratch so I can add extra gelatine...) and when I cut it I can actually pick it up with my hands!!

I plan to do something like that for a competition cake in March!!

I can't wait for this weekend and Valentine's Day to be over so I can stat working on my competition cake!

I made a camping cake for my son years ago with a "lake". Like KHalstead said,..frost out the hole forst then add jiggler recipe-works well. thumbs_up.gif
