I hope you don't mind me venting for a moment!! I HATE DISHONEST PEOPLE! I wish they would just shrivel up and disappear and leave the rest of us in peace! [okay that's a little harsh, I should just say I hate Dishonesty in general! ]
I listed two sofas on my local craigslist and already got 4 emails from scammers in some "foreign country" wanting to wire me money and have their "shippers" come pick it up, or something similar. The first one I almost fell for and I almost gave him/her my address! I already gave them my phone # and now I'm scared that somehow they'll look me up and come kill us all!! I know, that's exaggerated, but I am going back and forth between being really MAD and being just sad. At least I didn't really get scammed, like so many people. And eBay is even worse - my own brother got scammed out of $300 by someone in Russia.

Anyway, that's the end of my rant, and thank you for listening. Thank you all for being good honest people! (And if you slip up sometimes, here's a nudge for all of us to try a little harder and make the world a better place! icon_smile.gif

I don't know much about those places, but don't you wait until you have the $$ in hand before you ship the product? Or do you mean your brother sent the money and never got the item.

That really is crappy.

My brother's an eBay addict so usually he's really careful, but this ONE time he gave the person the benefit of the doubt, especially because their PAYPAL payment cleared! He shipped the item (it was his laptop), and then a few days later paypal rejected the payment as fraud, and for some little loophole reason he wasn't covered under their protection program. So the scammers completely took advantage of him.

Yes mvigil, thanks for the reminder that GOOD is stronger than evil. I do believe that! Sometimes crappy things happen to good people, even when you do your best, and you just have to rise above it and get over it! icon_smile.gif

Hmmm seems to me that paypal is somewhat at fault here. If they authorized The payment and he shipped the item. They should be responsible for refunding him. It was their mistake.

I had that happen with paypal....also I shipped my item to the seller Custom wedding invitations from carlson and they said that they never recived UPS said they left the package at the door but she claims that she never recieved item.... We resent the package per good customer service and Then after she sign and recieved it she had paypal refund her money!!!! so I was out two orders plus the money!!!! needless to say I dont sell on Ebay anymore......

sorry about what happened but at least you caught it before they could hurt you further.

I know what your talking about. I listed a wedding dress in our local mini merchant and the only people that answered were trying to scam me. They said to give them my address and they would send me a money order for more than the amount I was asking and then their shippers would come get it. I actually turned them in to the minimerchant and the FBI were investigating whoever sent the email. I would strongly encourage you to do the same. It won't take care of all of them, but hopefully it will stop at least one person from getting scammed.Sorry you have to go through the same thing...its frustrating.

I all fariness to Ebay and Paypal....there are many positive experiences with buyers and sellers who don't get scammed!! I have bought and sold on ebay...not alot but I have over 300 feedbacks and I have never been scammed for anything or lost my money either.I guess it depends on what you are buying...I won't and don't ship outside of Canada and the USA and definetly not overseas!!

I'm with Kiddiekakes (who incidentally is one of my favorite sellers icon_wink.gif )
On Ebay, i do not sell to any customers outside the US and Canada. I dont' ship until the money is in my bank account and i definitely don't deal with anyone that wants me to send money back to them.

You're right, I am grateful I didn't actually get scammed! And it really is the exception, not the rule. Most people are honest and good people. It's still sad that a few bad eggs have to make it so hard to trust anyone, though. It's just good to be careful, I guess.

[oops I didn't mean to post this twice]

p.s. in case you're interested, one part of the scenario with my brother that I forgot until just a little while ago, and maybe it will make more sense: the person who "paid" him for the laptop was actually a legitimate eBay user with good feedback, but a scammer had taken over his account by stealing his password. When eBay sorted it out, they had to cancel all of the purchases that the scammer made. And if any of the sellers weren't covered under eBay's protection policy (and my brother wasn't, I think because the scammers address he sent it to wasn't confirmed), they were out of luck!! It's just a hard situation.
