I am making 250 or so cupcakes for a Halloween Party for Portland's "at risk" youths...I am doing it as a donation type thing...(not getting paid), but they need them individually wrapped. They are doing a cake walk type thing...but are wanting to give out Halloween themed cupcakes. I have great ideas on how to decorate them...but need advice on how to package them without smudging up the frosting. I found som plastic containers online that I was going to buy...but if you all have any ideas please let me know! Thanks in advance!

I was going to say what you already mentioned. I have seen plastic clear boxes that people use for mini cakes. I would think you could find one closer to cupcake size and use that. With a ribbon tied on they are really cute. Let us know if you find some.

I think plastic containers for 250 items will be very expensive. Consider treat bags, maybe with something stiff in the bottom of the bag- a firm square of cardboard or a circle. If the bag is gusseted, you should have room to close the bag at the top with a twist tie and ribbon.

Or even a square of cellophane, again with a board of somekind under the cupcake, again closing with twist tie and ribbon.

We did cupcakes as the guest favours for a wedding and couldn't figure out how to package them nicely, but without spending $$$...then I saw beautiful, plain Chinese take-out containers. They cost about 25-50 cents apiece, were tall enough not to hurt the icing...and even have a metal handle!

I use the chinese containers for my individuals....I got them at instawares.com I think....they come in a variety of colors there. If it wasn't there it was at papermart.com.

I like the idea of the chinese take out containers. They are also stackable in a box to carry to your destination.


Another suggestion that I have used for mini cakes or cupcakes for co-workers during the holiday is the clear plastic bags or cellaphane bags. When I twist the end of the bag to close, I make sure it's enough air in the bag to form an air bubble around the cake and then I twist the tie wrap to close the bag at that time. It keeps my icing from getting smudged and it's individually wrapped.

Thanks ya'll...the plastic containers are .19 each, so it's not to spendy, but the idea of puting the cupcake on a board then wrapped is a good idea! Keep them coming ya'll!

try Oriental Trading Company--they have some cellophane gift bags that might work and they come in different holiday decorations.

I use 4"x4"x4" boxes. They are high enough not to smudge the icing.

Oriental Trading is probably a really good idea if you're going with the chinese take out boxes or the cellophane bags because most of the items they sell come in bulk. I'm on their email list & am constantly getting emails offering free shipping, but I think it's on purchases over $60.
