I have made both buttercream and royal icing flowers for years now but I am branching out into fondant and gumpaste. Does anyone know of a good book or website to help in making gumpaste flowers, especially roses? I tried using the book that the cutters came with and it was a mess.

I was going to recommend the wilton set as a place to start. I have other books that have some flowers in them but none that specialize in it. Hopefully someone else can be of more help.

I've used Scott Clark Woolleys book and Leslie Herberts "Complete book of Sugar Flowers.."

I like Leslies rose directions...smaller core...the roses are more lifelike IMO.

You can see some of my roses in my photo album.

Hi!
The best book about making gumpaste flowers is, in my humble opinion, Cakes By Design by Nicholas Lodge.

go to amazon.com I have purchased two DVD's from them were a lady teaches gumpaste flowers I like it casue she moves fairly slow and it is basically like taking a class at home...the books don't work for me until I can see it in real time and then use the book as a refference

I bought the book by Scott Clark Wooley but he is always referring to the medium or small cutter and never really gives much other detail and I don't know what he is talking about or where to get them.

I've just started working with gumpaste also. I bought the Wilton set (book and cutters), but the book doesn't really help too much. The articles here are as useful, if not better than Wilton book. Too many assumptions that someone has taught you the basics already.

farrah - do you have the names of those DVDs?

Nicholas Lodge has dvd's on gumpaste flowers... I highly recommend them. He has a catalog video that he demonstrates many of his tools sells and he also shows you how to make a rose. His dvd's are priced at $20 which is a bargain... He's an awesome instructor..

He has the cutters, for his flowers, on his website.

Some feel that they are too expensive but I think they are superior to others I have bought.

He also has a DVD out..his first..that shows how to make several of his flowers.
