Hi, guys!
Just really need to vent for a moment...I have just recently completed Course II. I signed up for Course III which was suppose to begin this Thursday, October 13. Anyway, my instructor just called to say that I am the only person signed up for Course III, so we will not be having it.
This also happened with Course II where no one from Course I signed up for it. I guess what I'm getting at is that I REALLY want to complete the courses because I have become very passionate about decorating and have wanted to do it since I was a child.
I guess I don't understand people. Why would you pay the money to do something and not go all the way...just seems like a waste of time and money to me plus it's holding me back. I want this SOOOO bad. Am I being selfish?
I have been asked to do a wedding cake for my Niece in December...and she wants fondant no less. I have not worked with it yet...was hopping to jump on it in Course III.
Sorry, guys, I'm just upset. Thanks for listening!
Weezer
I understand how you feel. I was signed up for Course III and the same thing happened to me. I was so dissappointed because the instructor had told me she had a lot of people waiting to take it. I was the only one in my course II, but I guess they wouldn't let her do that again. I'm sure we won't have course III in November either because she isn't having a Course II this month. I drive 1 1/2 hours to get there and was hoping to be done before winter.
Don't be afraid to work with fondant on your own. Make MMF, then its cheap and its easy to work with. So its not like you are out much money.
As for Course III, does anyone else around you offer it? Michaels, Joanne's, AC Moore, Hobby Lobby, any local shops?
We do have another place that offers it but I really like my instructor and I would feel bad taking it with someone else. It's also more expensive at the other place.
Is there another location offering these classes? I know that I started taking my classes at a Jo-Anne store and finished them at a Michaels. This was because at Michales they jad a higher enrollment and they also were a bit cheaper (they provided the class book, where at JoAnne's they made you buy it)
I really feel bad for you. It must be so frustrating. Hopefully something will work out.
Maybe your instructor can give you a private lesson just to give you an idea on how to do it. Then you can go back and take the class later.
why is each location different? I figured all locations provided the book? And michaels run's ads offering deals. I thought that wilton told them to do that.
just wondering.
Don't underestimate yourself...if you truly want to learn, try just experimenting! I wanted to take courses too and for various reasons (including bad instructors) I never did and I've taught myself every thing I know. I would just start with one thing, try it, screw it up completely, and then just try and try again. You will get better! I also research a ton online, here and other websites are just invaluable! Don't feel like you have to have this class or you can't go on building your skills. If you've got this fondant wedding cake to do then make some dummy cakes and play around with the fondant. You may surprise yourself!! Good luck!
I've had trouble finishing my Wilton courses as well. So frustrated that I ended up calling Wilton HQ and Michaels to complain. Tired of not being told that classes were cancelled on the day I show up, tired of not enough people in class enrollment and overall poor communication on the instructors part.
I was told when speaking with someone from Wilton that they were going to change things and offer the classes even if only one person is signed up. That may take a while, or was just said to get me off their backs. I don't have the luxury of time, as I'm sure many of you don't, so when my time was being wasted, and ingredients, I got really annoyed.
Anyways, I ended up finishing the course at a different location that took me 30 to 45 minutes to get to in rush hour traffic. I'm glad I did. That instructor was great and understanding even when I had to miss a class. I think it mostly depends on the instructor you have and, of course, the store. Seems to me like a lot of them don't have a clue (the sales clerks) when it comes to informing customers on classes.
I'm with you on finishing the classes. My girls had their b-days coming up, plus engagment and baptism cakes that I wanted to do. It helped to get some tips from the course, the instructor and the other people in class.
Good luck with finishing your course! I agree with everyone else, give the MMF a try. You'll love fondant
Take Care!

(sorry for my vent.... )
When I took classes it was a full house.
I did not go on to the last one because I just didn't want to devote the time (I work full-time), plus fondant isn't that difficult to work with.
Hi,
I can imagine how upset you are. I would be upset too. Its my dream to do a class in decorating. (nobody offers courses like that in my country)
Just to make you feel better i say that some people can't do courses at all, and you already have done two. So thats good isn't it? If you wait a little longer then you can also do your third class. So don't feel so down. In the mean time trie to learn on your own. You already know the basics, it's not so hard then. I have learned everything on my own and still do with a practice method. Didn't come out good, then next time i know what to do differently.
Maybe by the time they offer the third course you don't even want to take it because you already know. Ps. fondant is not really so hard to work with. for me the cream sounds much more difficult. So difficult that I haven't even dared to try yet
