I have to make a baby shower cake for Sunday. I settled on the two tier stacked cake in the current wilton book, with the buttons and baby clothes.

I am also sick and feeling miserable.

So last night I took some medicine and worked on the buttons. I finished all the buttons (100 of them) and figured since the table was already a mess with cornstarch, I would make the baby clothes too. I made all the baby clothes (booties, hats, bibs, t-shirts, and onesies) and put them on a tray to dry with the buttons.

Now I am thinking I made a huge mistake. I am concerned the clothes will either not stick or will look funny on the side of the cake because they were dried flat and the cake is round.

I was just trying to get a jump on things with me being sick and all. I think I'm going to have to re-do them. Ugh.

What has been your experience with fondant accent pieces and decorations?

Thanks for any advice you can share.

I just did that same cake. I cut the clothes out, let them dry flat and glued them to the cake with royal icing...worked fine. Hope you get to feeling better soon!

It should be fine. Hoever, if you find the fondant pieces are too stiff and won't apply smooth, just warm them slightly in your hands. I have found they will soften just enough to make a curve.
