I thought I'd post this site I came across...especially for those of you who do those amazing painting techniques on your cakes. SO inspiring!!!

antonia74 - any news of your cookie tutorial?
Also, the recipe you use for frosting cookies, does that get hard where it cracks off? The Toba Garrett glace icing hardens on the outside but stays soft on the inside but I can't seem to get much detail from it as it tends to melt into the background of the cookie. (does that make sense? )
Thanks,
Kos
Oh My Word! Just got to the website you listed. Breathtaking!
no news of the Decorated Cookie tutorial everyone...I submitted it last Wednesday, but it's BIG with about 16 photos for step-by-step and tonnes of text...so it's not a fast item for poor Jackie to have to transcribe, I'm sure!
The royal icing I use is hard, but the moisture from the cookie keeps it from being rock hard. It's perfect to eat!
Those cakes are truly unique and beautiful! Thanks for the link!
Sure wish I had the artistic talent to create these works of art! Janice
So here's the question....that painting must take a lot of time...I'm rading about the cakes and the fillings and wondering just how long those cakes will keep and not spoil.
I know they are covered with fondant and that should help...so what do you think the time frame is between the cake being filled and covered with the fondant and being painted and served??
WOW! What amazing talent! Thanks for sharing the link Antonia! Any ideas on how she did the white painted parts on top of tinted fondant? I'm curious if she paints on rice paper and then places it on the fondant, that might help with the spoilage factor. Hmmm... wheels are turning now...

Do you mean it kind of flattens out?? Even when you add more sugar for outlining?? I use Toba's and have been happy with it. That's what I did my scooby and spongebob cookies with.
Have you tried using a modified royal icing recipe? It's modified because it has just a little butter in it to keep it from getting rock hard.
You might like this better. : )
Oh a cookie tutorial!! Sounds marvelous! Is it going to be posted here on CC or where? Will definately have to check it out.

I'm sure they paint as soon as the cake is covered. It takes hours to do this...but if you have it well planned, you can finish relatively quickly (within a day)....depending on the size of the cake, of course. The more experienced you are, the faster you can paint.
I have left fondant cakes out for up to 4 days without any problems.

Really?...what was the filling? I would be afraid to leave a cake filled with a mousse for more than a day...and it would take me a month to paint a cake that beautiful.
Me and my husband stumbled onto this one last week ...and I loved it.....thats the same same I decided to try it!! I now see i will NEED ALOT OF PRACTICE!!
great site

I should have mentioned that my fillings do not need refrigeration. I do that purposely so that I can work on the cakes....sometimes it does take days to decorate. Practice practice practice and you'll do it faster than you think!
