I read so much about these things,I am going to have to try them. I looked on the recipe page and I see two recipes. Which one is the one everyone is talking about?

I think I will make them for valentines day for my family and put them in the valentines Chinese food containers I saw today at Christmas tree shop (I did not buy them but I better go back and get them before they are all gone.)

I use the recipe posted by Countrycakes as my basic cake ball recipe. But as everyone on this site will tell you that you can experiment with many different flavorings and combinations and they always turn out yummy. Trust me, they're telling the truth.

i think it's more of a preference type of thing. i have only done them 2 times and i just add: cake, icing, chocolate chips - mini. And sometimes i cover them with chocolate.
sometimes i don't cover them cause my son can't eat anything w/chocolate.
he loves them just w/the BC icing.

What i do is crumble up the cake mixed w/the BC in the mixer. let it mix for just a bit, it's usually a bit moist. so they are easy to roll like that.

katskakes posted that she mixes crumbled cake with BC frosting, recipes made like that works great. It also helps sometimes to freeze the mixture for about 15-20 minutes before rolling them into balls, just to make the mix a little firmer and to make it easier to handle.

i have not tried the recipe(s) that everyone is talking about but i do make something similiar i used cake scraps and rum extract( quite a bit) and let it sit in the frige overnight in an airtight container. then the next day i take them out and use a small icecream scoop and roll them into balls then i roll that into sprinkles, i just did some for a black and white wedding so i rolled them into blk and white sprinkles and the bride loved them, for v-day you could roll them in pink and red sprinkles, just a thought.

has anyone used cake filling as a binder? I have 1/2 a 9" square layer and some scraps. It is white chocolate flavored...kind of. Will it be good to mix with lemon filling? I think the lemon might overwhelm the cake. I'll dip them in white candy melts...

thanks!

i think the lemon would really overwhelm the cake.. if it was a yellow/white/vanilla flavored cake then the lemon would taste good i think...

it doesn't really taste like white chocolate, it is white cake with white chocolate pudding...

thanks!

I want to try them too. I haven't made any sculpted cakes yet or anything that has left me with alot of leftover cake, so I haven't tried them. I'm thinking of just making some straight out just to see how they are.

has anyone made filled cake balls? I could mix the cake with some creamer, make balls, put the injector tip on a pastry bag, pipe some lemon filling into the ball, dip in candy melts??

lol! hmm, sounds like too much work!
