Was wondering if some of you buy the premade gumpaste flowers and where do you get them. I've searcehd the internet and found a few, but wanted to see where ya'll get yours from, that is if you don't make them.

I haven't really worked w/gumpaste and will start trying, but I already have 2 weddings in the next two months and I don't think I will learn that quickly!!!

TIA
Christine

Also, do you find these to be worth the price?? They seem pretty expensive, but they are really pretty.

How do these compare to silk??

Like you, I haven't worked with gumpaste very much. Hope to take a class soon. I used this website for the flowers for my daughter's wedding cake, it was beautiful. I don't think the prices are too high for the quality of the product. . . especially if you don't have the time to make them yourself. The website is www.wholesalesugarflowers.com. I've been all over the internet and they seem to be the best .
Good luck! Don't forget to post your pictures!

If I were you, I would at least try to make some flowers on your own. There are many books that show step--by-step instructions. You might be surprised at waht you can teach yourself!

pinkbunny-- I just looked at your photos. That course III wedding cake is gorgeous! If you can make fondant roses like that, you can absolutely make gumpaste flowers. Go for it!

I agree, your roses look great. They have gumpaste flower arrangements at at least 2 of the cake stores I've been to. They're $7 or $8 for a corsage-sized arrangement that, funnily enough, looks like a corsage! icon_biggrin.gif

It seemed to me like a pretty good deal as long as you didn't need too many of them.

Don't know about ordering them online, though. I'd be worried that they'd break in shipping.

Thanks, I really want to learn to make other flowers than roses. I enjoy working w/fondant and can't wait to try gumpaste!!! I'll try it before I buy them, but I think the 2nd bride is going to want orchids. If she only wants a few (like I hope!!) I'll suck it up and find time to practice them. If she wants a lot, I'll probably suck it up and just buy them. I have one wedding cake next week (2 wks notice...our cake club is donating the wedding cake to a Katrina evcauee couple....everyone is doing the baking, but I have to decorate and 'accesorize'!!) and the next one is in one month. So I don't have much time to really practice to get the quality I'm going to want.

But we'll see. I think orchids are very beauitful delicate flowers and would hate to present something that didn't reflect that!!!

Gumpaste is basically like fondant. I bought Wilton's gumpaste kit and have been teaching myself. It's pretty easy. I went today and bought premade gumpaste and tonight made flowers for a bouquet. Roses with stephonotis and baby's breath. It's for a bridal cake next friday. I have no doubt that you would do great. They're easier than you think.Good Luck.
