Ok, I have been doing cakes for a little while, but have never been asked to do a wedding cake...until now. I need some advice as to how much to charge this person. There are so many different prices out there that I don't know what to go with. I live in Minnesota...don't know if that makes a difference on prices or not. The lady would like a 3 tier square cake 6", 10" & 14". She is serving about 300 and so I would a couple of sheet cakes also. Is there anyone who could help me with this? I need to let her know soon. Thanks for your help!!!

What would you cahrge per serving for a regular party cake? Add a small charge per person if you're using fondant (I have seen 50 cents to $1.00 more per person for this) and of course if you decorate it elaborately....charge a bit more for that, too. Maybe 25-50 cents per person more or maybe just a flat fee.....it all depends what others around you are charging. Don't forget to take deposits for your cake stands or plates!

Good luck....and don't forget to post those photos!

I"m pretty cheap, because I don't do too many weddings yet and I really enjoy it, so I charge $2.25 a slice and then remember any costly extra's like gumpaste or real flowers, any special serving stands or ornaments.....it's ok to take say "Please give me a day to get back to you on the price, I wouldn't want to over-charge you!" And then check it out with the nice folks at Cake Central who will make sure that you don't under charge Yourself!!!

I usually charge a flat fee for my party cakes that is why I am having a hard time deciding what to charge her. Thanks for your replies.

I'm pretty new to making wedding cakes so I usually charge all of my cost, plus .50-$2.00 per serving, depending on how elaboratly its decorated (sheet cakes would be cheeper per serving than the main cake) and how much work went into the cakes themselves (one flavor of cake is cheeper than 3 flavors of cake and 4 different fillings, lol). Just make sure you don't undercharge!!! That's the worst thing to do! Good Luck!
