Hi..

A long time ago a friend of mine told me that a friend of hers...( lol this is how urban legends start..lol) would use a cookie to "prop" up the corners of a square or sheet cake.

Especially for the kiddie cakes. I thought this was an awesome tip that I've been using all this time and thought that I'd share with you all.

I find that this extra "treat" makes the kids, anxious to get to the cake cutting part of the party....they all love to "treasure" hunt the cookie..lol

This little bit of cookie, lifts those droopy corners to make the cake more square, (flat) on the top!

Great idea...I had mentioned in an earlier post that I put a "blob" of icing under each corner to prop it up! Same concept...different medium!

MrsMissey..that's what I used to do too, till I got this tip.

I still do this with all my round cakes..I take a round or big star tip and go all around the bottom of the cake to "glue and fill in" the bottom of the cake to a board.

lol great minds think alike..lololol

I also have seen commercial bakeries use cake wedges to even out the corners. My son was at a friends birthday party in June and the cake came from a businness called Cakeworks here in the city and it was the most perfect flat slab I had ever seen and I thought..."I wish"... When I cut into my piece of cake...it was the corner....I could see a little wedge slid underneath and I thought that was a great idea!!By that time no one cares after it has been cut anyway.Hmmmm...I'm gonna try that

kiddiekakes..

one of my pet peeves is having a "rounded" top on a square cake..lol.

I like the top of my cakes to be flat, it just makes the design look so much better.

for some reason it doesn't bother me as much on a round cake...

Go figure...a cake decorating quirk??!--lol
