Do you decorate your cakes sitting or standing?
I usually stand... gets tiring after a while.
For Wilton classes we sit, but I start to feel claustrophobic after I start making a mess (5 minutes after i get started )
Is one better than the other? Or just personal preference?
i have never taken the wilton classes but i just now realized i do both while decorating... normally after i get a lil tired from standing i wish there were wilton classes closer to me ( the closest one is 45 minutes away
I do both.
I stand for most of it, but for things like making flowers, borders (especially on large cakes), etc. I sit on a bar stool I bought just for decorating. It brings me up to the height of my counter.
me too for me I think I have more freedom yet more stability when Im standing.....but after ,many many many hours of decorating some days I must sit!
I do both, too. I find that it is necessary sometimes when I have alot of decorating to do!
I mostly stand because I feel like I have to look down on the cake. Even while we were taking class, I would be the only one standing.
s_raines...I'm the only one standing in my class too! I can sit and do some of the basic flowers, but as soon as there's anything a little tricky, I seem to stand up...I think I concentrate better...my roses come out better when I stand...go figure!
This is interesting because I've always said how exhausted I am after making a cake....maybe because I've been standing for 6 hours!!!
I always always always sit when doing a basketweave but stand for everything else.
Depends on the technique I guess. But I would say 99% of time, I decorate entire cakes standing...
I am most confortable standing, but to get closer to the counter, I always take my shoes off! Weird, I know!!
I do both and sometimes when I am doing large images on the top of a large cake I find that I stand but with one leg on the chair and my arm resting on my knee to stabilize my decorating hand.
I know...I am strange but it works for me!!
Great post idea!!
I stand but when like others when working on other details, I'll sit. But I don't feel as in control of the situation when sitting.
