I posted it earlier but everyone was posting pictures and I have no comments on it. I tried a new design (scroll style) and need advice on it. My picture is to big to post on this message...so please look on my photo's area (on the bottom)...it is the first one pictured....Called "be sweet".

Any advise would be great. Also, what kind of top decoration would you put on it? I just used what I had at home. Customer asked me to just make something nice with a Lilac color.

Thanks

I think your cake looks great. I would add a few more flowers at the top.

I love your cake. I like the simplicity of the design (not saying it would be simple to do because I know I couldn't do it!) I love your scrolls! They look perfect to me! Thanks for sharing with us! icon_biggrin.gif

I just looked at your cake and really like it. I like something that doesn't have to much. I think the cakes look more elegant that way. If you put to much you can't see the cake or the artist who created the art. If you know what I mean.

The main thing I would suggest is that you cover your cake boards, that is a big distraction from the look of your cakes.

Your smoothing is good, your piping is good, and your flowers look great. For the Be Sweet cake, I think it just needs more lilac flowers, but not the pansy, the yellow in it doesn't seem to fit in.

Thanks for all the comments!!!

As for the cake boards...I know what you mean. I am still working out the kinks in my MMF. I thought it might look better if I covered the board with it and then added a ribbon around it. I know others that use wrapping paper. I have been using clear contact paper.

What might you suggest?

Hi MrsFish, I mainly use the poly foil florists paper to cover cake boards, you can get so many colors to coordinate with your cake decorations. (I bought my foils on eBay, some already cut into sheets, some in rolls...some of the online supply places carry the rolls too.)

Lots of the decorators here use gift wrap paper or even wallpaper samples and then put the clear contact paper on top so they can be washed. I made the mistake of putting white contact paper on some of mine...not good for the photos because it makes too much flash reflection.

I haven't used fondant or the royal icing to cover my boards as yet, seems like a waste to me, but they do look nice that way. Janice

I love it. I would take the others advice about covering the boards. But the scrollwork is impeccable!! Maybe a message on the top would do, but that is it. I love it!!

Thanks again everyone for all the advise!!!!

I will work on better cake boards and maybe scroll work on the top of the cake. I agree it needed something on top. I just didn't know what to do...Other than ordering some fresh flowers. The only fondant flower I can do is the orchid and it's not very good...yet!

Thanks again and Enjoy your day!!!!!
