Have never used the rolled fondant before on cookies, but am going to try it. My DUH! question is how do you get the fondant slightly smaller than the cookie! Trim it down carefully or what? Buy 2 sizes of each cutter? I feel really dopey asking. icon_redface.gif Thanks for helping

There's no such thing as a stupid question! You use the same cutter you used for the cookies. The cookies will spread a little bit while they're baking, thus making the cut-out fondant a little smaller then the cookie and creating a great border for RI.

thats all we use now it takes alot less time to decorate. When you have 65 doz of cookies to do you have to find a faster way to do it and it taste really good. You bake your cookies and cut out the shape with the cookie cutter and put it on your cookies straight out of the oven so it sticks let dry over night decorate them the next day buy the end of the day they are ready to wrap. If you look in my photos or go to my website the cookies are done in fondant.

This was made with fondant. About half the cookies in my album are fondant. Hope you get a chance to take a quick peek.

I agree with Wendy....FONDANT ON COOKIES IS AWESOME!!!! It's so fast and tastes REALLY good (and I'm not a big fan of the way fondant tastes).

A really good inspirational reference book on this is the Flour Pot Cookie Book. They do all their cookies in fondant and have some very cool designs. icon_smile.gif

I tried MMF on cookies last weekend too and loved it! I was surprised because DH loved it also, and he hated MMF on cake. I don't care for it on cake either, not the taste, but the texture isn't something I prefer on cake. But on cookies - thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif

bluehen92, I feel the same way and so do sooooo many others I know. I believe it's the texture people can't get around of the MMF.... they want that soft, "melt in the mouth" feeling when they bite into cake and not the chewiness of MMF.... but the presentation of fondant is just beautiful ... even on cookies ... Fairytale, I love the cookies; they're awesome!!

ok, quick question for fairytale. Which do you prefer when icing cookies, teh fondant or the rolled buttercream? I am new to this and since I've never tried either I'd like to hear from a pro. Thanks! Jackie

I like fondant because I can do some many different textures with it. I like cookies that have a lot of depth. Second would be royal.

You guys are so sweet. I'm really glad you like my work. I've been doing cookies for about 5 years. Many of my cutters are from Simons Cookie Cutters. I'm their sugar artist. I also like Old River Road. Some of the cutters I get custom made, like the penguin. The rest are cutters I've pick up here and there.

This might freak some of you out, but I only use Wilton premade fondant. I've tried Satin Ice, but don't like the texture. I always add high quality vanilla to my fondant. Since you don't put it on thick, like you would on a cake, the taste and texture are really not a problem.

Thanks for the feedback. You all sure made my day. icon_biggrin.gif

Is there a way to add the MMF to cookies after they've cooled, been frozen for storage and then thawed for decor. ( Ok I tried to get a jump of cookies for the kiddos class, and now I have like 60 cookies begging to be dressed, and I don't want to because my RI skills and very beginner. icon_cry.gif )

next time I'll do the MMF! Ang

angkimbrell - dont quote me on this but I remember reading about this somewhere and they said you can brush the cookie with light corn syrup and that it would adhere. I was looking for this because I had the same thing you did in mind. I didnt want to be overwhelmed all at once. let me know if you figure it out. Thanks!

To all of you who posted pictures on this thread, they are gorgeous!! but, the edged don't look like fondant, do they "melt" when you put them on the warm cookies? I always use RI, but I have to make 250 cookies for this weekend, and my wrists hurt just thinking about icing all of them!!

I just had a look at your album too and can't believe how gorgeous all your cookies are! Cookie decorating is a passion for me but I did not know you could use fondant on them. Learned something else new today, thanks to you and the person that created this thread. Thanks to you both! Can't wait to give this a try. icon_smile.gif
