I attempted to make MMF tonight for the first time and all went well until I got to the point where you roll it out to go on the cake. Then it started crumbling like bad biscuit dough. Its like it dried up all of a sudden. Anyone know what happened?

the only thing I can come up with is you need to add more crisco while rolling it out.

hopefully someone else will be able to give you an answer that they are 100% sure of.

Hi there! I made a recipe of MMF two weeks ago and it turn out perfect for me . Just try not to have the air conditioner too cold, at least that`s what I do.
Also if you have a scale, need to measure the ingredients.
Have you tried the recipe from this site? It`s really good! thumbs_up.gif

I used the MMF from this site and it turned out great. Did you let your fondant rest. I think that makes a huge difference then when you need to use it just pop into microwave about 10 seconds and its pliable again to use. Also make sure you crisco the mixing bowl and the microwave safe bowl. Hope this helps you out. Good luck.

My first batch of MMF was hard and the second did that..... well I learnt not to try and put all the icing sugar and it turned out great. Also, i added crisco when I rolled it the last time and it didn't crack up. Hope this helps.

I know this is a little late, but may help you in the future....

The first time I made MMF, it started to crack and was really stiff when I started rolling it out. Make sure, if you've put it in the fridge after mixing it up & before rolling it out, that it's been allowed to come to room temp before working with it. Then nuke in microwave for maybe 15 seconds at a time until it's more pliable. I did this and it still cracked a little, so I added a few drops of water to it and kneaded it in, then used a teensy bit of crisco when I started rolling it out and it was perfect!! I thought the water might help the texture because I can't stand the taste of crisco & didn't want to use too much of it, and the water did help tremendously! Hope that helps you! icon_smile.gif

when it's too dry, you can wet your hands and massage the MMF.. that's worked for me.. that or use Crisco .. both have worked well for me .. to keep it moist, use Crisco to roll it out with .. to get a matte finish, use cornstarch... with the cornstarch, it will become a bit harder.. make sure you have a really firm board under it that won't give any at all... once you get the hang of working with MMF, it's great!

That last posts descibes exactly what happened when I made it. I used the recipe off this site. A lot of good pointers I hope I can remember them all next time I make it.
