I just went to my local cake decorating supply store, and they said they could no longer sell luster dust because it was discovered to be non-edible. The one they sold was made by CK Inc. Has anyone else heard anything about this?

I think there was an insert when I got something that said it was not FDA approved so it was not edible.

Yes...this has happened in many states including CA where they no longer sell lustres dusts and other cake decorating powders/Dragees which are deamed Non Edible!! Here in Canada there is no such ban so we can get ahold of most of the items. You may have to order from a cake decorating site such as Sugarcraft.com to get ahold of product.Read the labels first though because you definetly DON'T want to be putting anything on your cakes that aren't food safe!!

Yeah there are some dusts that are edible but I'm not sure what brand or who sells them. You would have to check around on the different cake sites like Countrykitchensa.com Sugarcraft.com,Earlene Moore site and a few others and it should say whether they are food safe or not!!Hopefully some other members might have specific sites that could help you out!!

Guess I had better stock up. Alabama will prolly outlaw it next. I know when I went to a decorating store in CA. a few months ago...There was a guy looking for silver dragees and they were banned there.

shimmer dust may not be the same as luster dust but it is edible and is certified to be kosher.... I have alot of that! and here is a site that talks about luster dust and how to use them, and things like that.... its good reading.
