Hi all,

I'm new here today and to cake deocrating as well. I'm very ambitious and want to make a large breast cancer ribbon cake to celebrate the end of my sister in laws succesful treatment.
I plan to use about 9 loaf pans for tha cake and cover it in a light pink buttercream icing. I was then going to go around the top edges with mini dark pink marzipan ribbons and fill the hole in the upper end with some marzipan rose buds. Am I being too ambitious for a beginner?
I've got most of the needed equipment, and I've made a few cakes in the past
AWinnie the Pooh
A Christmas ylue log
A hamburger cake and several others
Thanks in advance
I hope to learn a lot and eventually contribute what I've learned

Hi Eric and Welcome!!!

Only you can decide or not if you have the confidence and capabilities to try something of this magnitude!! It sounds like you have it all mapped out and you have all your supplies ...so I say 'Go for it"

Welcome to CC.

There are soo many wonderful people here to give you advice and support.

Personally, I don't think that your cake idea is too ambitious. I was recently asked about doing a cake for a breast cancer survivor and was wondering exactly what to do. I love you idea, if you don't mind I may use it too.

Good luck, welcome and most of all have fun!

Be sure to post your pictures!! I would love to see them.

Kristina

I'll be working on it for next weekend. I'll try and get some pictures but I'm still in the stone ages and don't have a digital camera

Thanks for the support

Welcome to the boards! It sounds like you've got it under control! I'm sure you will do great and be sure to post a picture when you're done. How sweet of you to do that for your sister-in-law! icon_smile.gif

Hi Folks,

Just to let you know the cake turned out awesome and had rave reviews until my brother in-law tripped going down the stairs and dumped the cake on the floor.
I'll have pictures at the beginning of next week

Thanks for the help
Eric

Ooohhh, what a bummer! That must have been heart breaking! We, at least you got pictures and the experience. Thats one of the main reasons I don't let anyone else carry my cakes, but from the way you described your idea (which is great by the way) it sounds like it must have been really big and heavy!

Eric, I can't wait to see the pictures. At least it will be a funny story to tell down the road. I still love seeing the shocked faces of people when I tell them how one of the blocks on my cake fell over taking the whole cake down icon_surprised.gificon_lol.gif

I'm sooo sorry. Something like that happened to me once. I made a Cinderella carriage cake (my first cake). It was the sports ball and had sugar cookies for wheels. There is one posted on here somewhere of the same style. I took a ton of pictures, but on the way to the party, it fell over. I was so bummed. I'm sure that most people here have a story or two about something similar happening.

Can't wait to see the pics.

It turned out perfect except for the seams in the fondant which I couldn't get rid of.
She saw it and couldn't get over it. It's one of the things she keeps talking about over and over
I even ordered a small bouquet of pink flowers to put in the center of the ribbon
I'm very proud of it
