Ok so I have been asked to make a cake for a bridal shower that is themed "you can't live on love alone" Very cute I think. Everyone will be bring a favorite dish and the recipe. This way the bride to be will have a nice cookbook started. The gifts she has registered for are all kitchen/dining room things. So my thought is that I would make the cake look like a giant recipe card with the recipe for a happy marriage on it. (it is a cute powm)
Here is my problem I can't write neatly to save my life. So could I do a FBCT? THe cake will be 11x15.
Any ideas on how I can pull this off with out having to write a bunch?
I saw Lisa's recipe cake and it is beautiful!!! But I can't get an edible image that fast.
There isn't anywhere I can get an edible image this fast the cake is for this Sunday. Plus I am up for the challenge.
Thanks in advance
Jenn

What about typing out what you want the cake to read on your computer. Type in the font and size you want it to be on the cake. Print it out and take a safety pin and punch little holes through the letters. Then lay this paper on your cake and press down lightly to make a pattern on your cake. Finally, trace the pattern.

HTH!

What about royal icing letters in fancy script? You could just size the letters to the correct size, outline/fill then color with luster dust. icon_smile.gif I remember those instructions from one of the posters on here and hers looked great!

This is a non-edible idea, but it could work and could be cute....

How about using your computer and a word processing program, and typing out the poem, maybe throw in a cute graphic or two, and print that out. You can cover it in contact paper and lay it on the cake. You can even do a border around it if you want.

After it is removed, she can save it with the recipes and always have it to remember the day, and the cake by. icon_smile.gif

Here is a cake I did using this method.... http://www.tracescreations.com/birthday/cocktail.htm

If it's hard for you to write with a piping bag, then why don't you do the cake in fondant and then just use an edible pen to write the poem on it? It would look even more like a real recipe card...and you don't have to worry about piping at all.

(Unless you mean your regular handwriting is messy, then the ideas above are probably better suited to you!)

I appreciate everyones ideas . . . keep 'em coming
I am leaning toward a FBCT this way I can just trace the letters and I won't have to write. I'll post pictures when I'm done.
Thanks

Just be sure to remember to reverse the image - you don't want a backward recipe! (this is exactly the kind of thing I would do icon_redface.gif)

It seems like the FBCT would be A LOT of work...but then again I am kind of lazy! I also do not like to write on cakes. The best idea I think would be printing out your recipe and either laminate or use the contact paper. My other idea would be to use the premade royal icing letters and use those to make something short and sweet. You could put the letters in the middle and the decorate the corners with either flowers or you could do maybe some spoons, or cups...maybe plastic measuring cups with a nice ribbon on them. I am brainstorming! Hope that helps you some! icon_smile.gif

I think if I can trace the letters I will be ok. I also think if it is in a reverse image it will slow me down a lot and hopefully it will be neater. If all else fails I will hope that they drink a lot at the party and don't really care what it looks like icon_lol.gif
Thanks for the help.

Another idea is getting an edible image made. Or writing out the poem or edible paper using a edible marker.

I wish I could do an edible image or write it onedible paper but there is no way I can get one done or get the paper in time for the cake. The cake is for sunday.
I'm gonna play with it this afternoon and see what I come up with.

Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!
I really appreciate all your help everyone.
So I ended up having to change everything . . . Go figure icon_rolleyes.gif
I saw the brides mom at another party and she told me that the amount of people i got was wrong that she only needed enough for 30 people and here i was ready to make enough for 60 people. So i decided i would go for broke and try to pipe the letters my self. I did them backwards from left to right and it slowed me down and came out much neater. I had a really hard time getting the FBCT to work on the side of the cake.
I havn't figured out how to make them stick. I gotta freeze them in a curved shape.

YOu all are so great I couldn't have done it with out you. icon_biggrin.gif
