I have an OLD Sunbeam mixer. This weekend it started getting hot while I was mixing my icing. I am interested to know what mixers are the best liked. Mixers are expensive and I want to make sure that I get one that is worth the bucks!

Thanks everyone!

Did anyone mention Kitchen Aid yet? Kidding. I have one too and I adore it. It was my 1st Christmas gift from my now husband. I knew he was a keeper when he gave me that! Definitely invest your money in KA. You won't be sorry!

OK dare to be different-- I have a --get this----
Kenmore 450

DH got it for me for mother's day. It was half the price of the Kitchen Aide. I love it! It accepts all KA extras (ice cream maker, pasta maker, ect..) It works great for me. As I understand, they are noiser than KA, but carry the same warrenty and are very durable.

I just love my KA! (When we had to evacuate for hurricane Rita, I was really close to taking my KA.) So I would say KA all the way!!!

I love my KA. I have a SMALL 4 quart. I was drooling on the 6 pro series at Bed Bath & Beyond the other day. They were selling it for 350! I thought that was a good deal. icon_biggrin.gif

I have a Wolfgang Puck 700 watt. Works for me, and not as expensive as KA.

KA all the way!!!!

I have the 350 watt (mom gave it to me). Just recently got the Pro600...Hecht's had a big sale with extra bowl rebate.

Love both, but get the Pro600...it's terrific.

The Consumer Reports has a report this month on mixers! They said that the best buy was the Hamilton Beach Eclectrics 6322(1); average price $150. They rated it excellent on whipping time, mixing and noise level and very good for the kneading (which could be very important for fondant!). KitchenAid Classic K45SS(WH) $180, KitchenAid Artisan KSM150OPS (WW) $250 and DeLonghi DSM5 $300 were all rated the same with excellent for whipping time, mixing and kneading and good for noise.

I hope this helps!

I also own a KitchenAid Professional 6. I purchased it at an outlet store that sales refurbished models. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it and I saved a bunch of money on it. thumbs_up.gif

I don't know much about the Sunbeam, but I know they're not as powerful as most KA's. My KA is about 40 years old and has pretty low power. It didn't even come with a dough hook because the motor isn't powerful enough. It gets hot every time I make anything and it's still going strong, so don't give up on your mixer yet.

If it goes out on you, though, I don't think you can really beat KA for the price. I would love a DeLonghi, but they're expensive so my next one probably will be another KA.

DeLonghi DSM7 980 watts, 7 quart. Absolutely love it. I have kneaded MMF and Nicholas Lodge's gumpaste in it. It has an overload protection device but so far it hasn't turned itself off.

When and if you decide to buy a KA, my advice to you is to make the purchase through Williams Sonoma. ALL of the items they sell have a LIFETIME GUARANTEE. I just purchased the professional series and when I told them mine pooped out they told me I could bring in my old one and they would replace it. They were actually going to give me my $$ back because I bought a new one. I decided to keep both. icon_smile.gif
Good luck in deciding.
