I was having a discussion with my best friend the other day and I had mentioned that some people dip a brush in egg and brush over things for a gloss finish look. She went ballistic going on about Salmanella(Spell Check). I have always heard about doing that but she thinks its unsafe. I even mentioned Egg Nog, but that went dead in the water as well. Is it safe to use uncooked eggs for glossy looks?

I certainly wouldn't risk it for a cake I was selling. I don't want to get sued for giving people food poisoning. If I want a glaze I use some glycerine mixed with a little water

icon_smile.gif Egg wash is only if you bake it... like on breads, pie crust etc...
but not on items that you do NOT bake... that's why it comes out shiny..
