I found a recipe in one of my cake books and it is made with 1package gelatin, 1/4 cup water, 1tablespoon light corn syrup, 1pound powdered sugar.

I've never heard of this before. Have any of you ever used this one?

It looks more like a pastillage recipe. I do use a gumpaste recipe that is similar, but it has gum trag in it.

That is very close to my recipe for Rolled Fondant. Are you sure it didn't say "sugar paste".

icon_biggrin.gif This is similar to the recipe that I use for my rolled white chocolate. Except that I melt white chocolate and mix a little Karo with it, and work it all together with the recipe that you have. It tastes really good, and rolls out very smooth!

Sure-

Use the above recipe that Peacockplace has and simply mix 3 squares of melted white chocolate with 1 Tbsp Karo- mix well- let rest so that the oil seeps out. Mix the white chocolate mixture with the above fondant mixture, and blend the two together. Basically just a mixture of candy clay and fondant.

Here goes:
1.In a saucepan stir geletin and water and allow mixture to bloom for three min.

2. Stir in corn syrup. Heat on med. until geletin is completely dissolved, stirring constantly.

3. In a mixing bowl, alternate geletin mixture with powdered sugar and mix until stiff.

This is from Cake Decorating for the First time. Recipe for gumpaste.

So then you use this just like gumpaste to make flowers? How do you store it?

Rolled Fondant or Sugarpaste is a cake covering.

Pastillage, and its relation Gumpaste, is a moulding compound for making cake decorations etc.

When you compare the recipe for both, there are some similarities, BUT they produce completely different products.

I have never used a pastillage recipe with CMC. gum-tex or gum trag. I have used CMC to harden sugarpaste[rolled fondant] for moulding, but only rarely.

The pastillage recipe is the one that I was taught, and the only one I use. I do not use gumpaste.

ROLLED FONDANT [Wilton American variation]
1/4 c cold water
1 tb unflavored Knox gelatin
1/2 c light corn syrup [glucose]
1 1/2 tb glycerin
1 ts almond extract
2 ts vanilla
2 lb confectioner's sugar

MODELING PASTE RECIPE OR PASTILLAGE
250 g pure icing sugar [powdered sugar with NO cornstarch added]
2 scant teaspoons gelatin
1 rounded teaspoon liquid glucose
30 ml water [accuracy is required]
Sift the sugar through a very fine sieve to remove lumps. Soften and dissolve the gelatin in the water in a bowl that is sitting in a bath of hot water. Stir in the glucose, then small amounts of sugar. Keep adding until it is a pliable ball. Place in a plastic bag, seal tightly, and sit for a minimum of 3 hours. [Very important.]
Keep covered as using - dries porcelain hard, rolls thinly, and works well. Non-toxic but inedible.

PeacockPlace....

I tried the gumpaste recipe a few days ago....

Turned out great!!! Only when they say it dries really fast....they mean it! It only took about 2 mins for it to get a hard crust. And when it dries, it dries like porcelian. I was pretty impressed with it...since it was the first time I had used anything like a gumpaste (other than fondant). I am wondering if I could just add some tyclose to it, in order to keep it from drying so fast. I will have to try it.

I just wanted to comment on it since I told you I would....have you tried it yet???
