I have to do a cake for work this week where the theme is the movies. It kinda centers around great customer service as well. So I was thinking about putting an Oscar and some type of award like an envelope (opening the envelope type thing). Does anyone have any pictures of cakes like this? Any ideas of how to make the Oscar? I'm lost, just had the idea?! Thanks in advance for the help!

I did a cake this past Spring for a Gemini Award winner (it's the Canadian version of the Emmy Award!) and here is the photo. I make the banner and the award from gumpaste...then painted them with edible gold powder for the shine.

You could do a film canister or a film reel instead. The reel would be easy. Just make a 2" round cake (don't know how many this needs to feed) and ice it in dark chocolate buttercream. Do either a color flow or royal icing "crown" that you can lay on top that looks like the side of a film canister. Here's a graphic I found. It would be a pretty easy design. You could brush the top with gold luster dust just to make it more festive. Then you just make your cake board to match the top and have a strip of fondant film wrapped around the cake and trailing off to the side.
