What a way to wake up on a Sunday morning to all these compliments! Thanks so much you guys! It took a lot of time to make it but I loved every minute of it. It's an actual cake so my family is coming over today to devour it.
I'm going to try to remove the decorations without breaking them. I'll buy a cake dummy tomorrow, fix it up and keep it as a model cake for the future.....although I would have to charge a fortune to make up for the time I spent on it!
You are all too kind and I really want to thank you for always making me feel so wonderful.....have a great day everyone!!!!
I agree! WOW! I see a great competion, and that is just from CC members entering!
Good Luck to all of you who've entered, your cakes are beautiful! Janice
WOW!
How much time did that take you??? Is the cake real or a dummy?
What would you charge for that cake?
Wow, that is a beautiful cake. The work and detail is awesome. For sure this will win you first prize. Keep us updated.
Again WOW
Sunlover....it is a real cake.....in retrospect I should have used a cake dummy just so I wouldn't have to ruin it later.....
Aside from the baking, torting, stacking, and carving the actual cake.....the decorations took a couple of hours a day over the span of a week. I have 2 little ones and I can't spend hours on end like I would like to. I dedicated one day to just decorating and as soon as I sat down....wouldn't ya know it...I had unexpected company and the whole day was gone!
So...Thursday night I stayed up late....the whole thing must have taken 12-15 hours to finish. I don't know what to charge for something like this. Maybe $300-$400? It serves around 40 people.
I'm guessing on the price.....anyone have any insight? Thanks
Since you're in NYC, I'd say you could get away with charging $400. That cake is at least as good as anything the big-name NYC decorators make (Sylvia Weinstock etc.), and I'm sure they'd charge at least $10/serving for something that complex.
Your cake looks like a work of art! I hope you do not feel any pain when you cut into it for serving! At least you can keep all of the decorations. Good luck in the contest! Its bound to be a winner!

You're probably right! Yeah! $400 or higher is what I would charge.
That is awesome!!! Great job. I entered too and haven't shown mine because I thought the same thing about showing. Yours is tons better than what I did. You'll surely win!
So if I understand correctly.....you are entering this cake in a contest on the Wilton website??? What is the category??? This is unbelievable. where did you come up with the design?.....or should I go and read all entries before mine to get that answer? Anyway, this is beautiful!!! Good luck!!!
Amy
Amy and everyone else...thank you so much! I am in love with Thomas Mcnight (the painter) and my ancestry is Greek so his paintings are just exquisite in my eyes.
I modeled this after the elements of some of his paintings.
Thanks so much again!
