Here is a story that I would love to share with you all.

I get on a soap box about putting only EDIBLE items on my cakes..and here is one of the reasons why..lol

When my son was a little one, he was a member of the cub scouts, so, since mommy was a baker....it always fell to me to make special cakes and cupcakes for the meetings.

one Halloween I made these great cupcakes...they were iced with green grass...some of them had pumpkins, others ghosts..get the idea? but they all had an extra item.... a great rubbery spider ring that I had found in the cake decorating store. I thought ..OH what a great addition, not only will they eat the cupcakes they will have a little keepsake.

So...after I decorated all the cupcakes I artistically inserted the ring into the cake, packed up and arrived with my 40 or so cupcakes and thought that I would explain to the boys to remove the spider ring before they ate their cupcake.

To the delight of the cub scouts!

We displayed the cupcakes while they had the meeting...and there is ALWAYS that ONE kid...the COMEDIAN! The kid that never listens to ANYONE and is always getting in trouble for NOT listening.

Well, this kid, wouldn't wait till after the meeting to be handed his snack, he snuck past everyone, grabbed a cupcake and inserted the whole thing into his mouth! Ring spider and all!

I felt like the BIONIC WOMAN, trying to LEAP across a crowded cafeteria to grab his hand and prevent him from swallowing that spider ring.

Unfortunately, with my bad knees all I was able to do was to BUNNY HOP across all the while....screaming....NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I was so mortified, I tried to explain to the Scoutmaster and the parents what had happened. The kids eyes were a big as saucers!! I'm trying my best NOT to YELL at someone ELSE'S kid..lol

Well, I'm NOT sure what happened....if the kid was used to eating NAILS or what...the spider went down easy...

I had to call the parents, explain what happened...hope for the best, that this thing didn't get lodged on the way out and the poor kid would need major surgery to remove a rubber spider ring from his tummy. UGH!

the upside to this..is that ...I scared the living daylights out of this kid, when it came to snack time, we asked him if he wanted another...."NO THANKS" was his answer...lol and...he never again grabbed food off the tables while there were in the meetings..lol

Hey, sounds like lessoned learned for the kid!! I'm sure besides having a Happy Halloween potty break, he'll be fine, but will think next time he just grabs something he is not supposed to. Kids!!! ARGHHH!!! lol

ha..

The parents of this kid were pretty clueless. They owned a local pizza shop and the kid got hit by a car, while ridding his bike, right in front of the shop.( The parents had NO idea!)

The WHOLE town knew this kid...we were worried about the car..lol--he was fine, we never did get to see the car!

HE was not a bad kid, just....NOTORIOUS..!!!

So it was just ONE more thing this poor kid got razzed about....the rubber spider!..ouch!

I have 200 or so of those spider rings I was 'thinking' of putting on my cupcakes this year for my kids...I think I should think twice because I won't be there when they're given out. OMG@!
