Hi All,
Does anyone know anything about these and what you can make with them? I recently came across both of the sizes and bought them, but now I don't know how to use them.
I know you're supposed to be able to make letters and numbers with them and I've figured out most of those, but is that all they're supposed to be for?
They're really nice, heavy aluminum pans. My DH says they're like cast aluminum.
Also, how old are they? Do they still make them and are there more than these two sizes (approx 14"x8", and the petite 4"x7")? I can't find out anything about them.
If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it!!!
Thanks, ladymike
this should help: http://www.fantes.com/educated_cake.htm
yes, primary purpose is letters and numbers -- just arrange those little blocks, pour in the batter and bake.
I suppose, if you wanted to get creative, could create own unique shapes.
I bought my daughter both sets on Ebay. Hers came with directions. I think she has used them but has not commented on how they work. Can have her PM you if you'd like.

Oh my gosh... I want those!! Any clue where to get them, or did you find them at a garage sale or something? Lucky duck!!

i got mine off eBay (like soooo many (!!) of my pans)
I just found one yesterday at a cake decorating shop for $10. I was driving by and saw this tiny store and of course I had to go in. I can't wait to use it!
Thanks all for your replies.
Doug - thanks for the link - I think those may be the actual instructions and recipes! How great is this!?! This gives a lot of suggestions! Thanks so much Doug!!!
lionladydi - thanks, it would be great if I could talk with someone who has actually used these. The only problem with that is that I never know when or if I'm going to be on the computer, but I'd love to know what she thinks about them and what she has used them for, how they worked, etc.
Melvira - Since you are so excited about these, I'm guessing you know something about them. I, too, have seen them on eBay, but I got mine at a local auction. They were in a box of other bakery-type things and I bought the whole box for only $2.00. I guess I did good, huh?!? If you have anything you could share with me as to the uses for them, I'd really appreciate it. If you want to come to Indiana, I'll share my pans with you!
neni - And, since you're really excited too, if you have any additional uses or ideas for them, please share.
Thanks again, to all of you! Cake Central & you guys are great!!!!
Trust me ladymike...........I paid considerably more than $2 for them on Ebay. You are very lucky!!!!!!! Will ask my daughter about them today.
Diane
These are also GREAT for petit fours!!!! I am using mine today for a 100 days of kindergarten cake for my daughter's class. I have an instruction booklet that also shows how to make a train.
Thanks sooooo much lionladydi!! I can't wait to hear what she says. I'm excited and I don't even know what they do yet - LOL
WOW sweetiesuz!
Are you making 100 petit fours?!? Boy are those kids going to be on a sugar high!
Is the train something that would be easy to explain on here or would you be willing to email it to me? I'd really appreciate it.
By the way, welcome to Cake Central. You'll meet so many nice people on here and they are so willing to help. You'll love it here, and it really is addictive!!!
TY for the welcome!!! Today I am making a cake 14in base and using my educated pan for the number 100 to have a 3D effect on top. I have used the larger pan to make petit fours. I cut mine in half vertically so that I got more of a square than a rectangle. But you can also use the pan to make square cupcakes which is a cool switch!!!
I would probably need to copy the booklet instructions and mail them to you. It contains instructions for cars and trucks, jell-o, chocolate and lots more.
The fante ones are smaller than the educated pans. They dont' make the educated pans anymore and they were great to make grooms cakes!!
Logos and monograms!
Fabulous! Thanks so much! I'll email you my address. And, please let me know what the charge is for the copies and postage. I'll gladly reimburse you!
RisqueBusiness - Thanks for the reply. Do you have any examples of work you have done or any instructions for the educated pan sets? I'd really appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks again!
um, I made something with the fante ones, but it's a dirty word in the naughty gallery..lol
I would still love to get a set of educated pans, they are larger almost a 1.4 sheet cake sized
