I am totally at a loss for ideas with this golf theme cake I have to do for Saturday! It is just an 8" round cake, with chocolate icing, so I'm thinking of green grass on the top.... I don't know what else. I can't find a golfer figurine anywhere, they didn't have any at Michael's, Walmart, the party store I looked at.... I don't have a sports ball pan so that's not an option. Does anyone have any pics/ideas that might help me?

TIA
Melissa

Melissa, sorry I can't help you to much except to say maybe a FBCT??
But, I did want to add how happy I am to see you back on CC, and to have a cake order is just great!

Well, I did a golf cart cake, it is my photos, but that is probably not what you are looking for. What about just baking a cake in a pyrex mixing bowl. Then decorate it like a golf ball. I did that with a soccer ball cake that is in my photos.

Angela

I did a couple of really simple ones. Check out in my photos. I did the flag next to the hole (where the ball goes in) with a tooth pick or a sucker stick is good too. Then cut up a triangle and taped it to the stick. You can write any number you want on it...

why not use fondant or candy clay to make a golf balls with clubs. UI have a candy mold that i use fro my hubbies cake earlier in the month. Maybe you can find a mold like i did. maybe you can make a score card to go along wiht the alls and clubs out of fondant. Hope this helps

I am curious - how can you get chocolate icing green? Doesn't it end up being brown? Or am I missing something? (very possible icon_confused.gif )

I am thinking that the cake will have a base coat of chocolate icing, then she will make up some other icing (BC??) to color green and to decorate with.

That's how I read it anyway, but I guess only melissablack knows for sure...

I just did a 1/2 sports ball on a 9 inch square with real tees to set the candles on. Check out my pix and see if this helps. Heather

Yes, this is correct... ice in chocolate, decorate with green grass on top of that. icon_smile.gif

I would go with the green grass on top, fondant golf ball ( fondant ball poked all over to make the dents) then make a flag out of fondant and glue it to a sucker stick with royal icing. Let us know what you pick.

Thanks for the ideas! I ended up using a real golf ball, and a little paper flag on a stick, with grass (tip 233) around the ball and flag, and also along the bottom border.

I didn't have the money to buy stuff to make fondant... the cake already cost me more to make that what I charged 'cause I needed so many supplies. It's like I'm starting out again 'cause I don't have any supplies anymore so I'm not making any profit.

I will post a picture as soon as I figure out how to get them off my sister's digital camera!
