I am making a 11x15 cake for a shower. I made fondant roses and I am wondering how to really put them on the cake. I have seen the arrangement of the flowers and they are more like sticking off the cake and off of round cakes. I guess chosing a rectangular cake is not the best choice. But can someone post a pic or tell me how to make these roses useful?

I would cut a piece of paper the same size as your cake and play around with designs on your paper before putting them on the cake.. There are lots of ideas in the galleries too.. I have lots of ideas but it is hard to explain..

Here is one from Earlenes site.. as an example I think I would put a few roses up in the right hand corner too..

crimsonhair,

I love this arrangement, do you think a shell border would be to much...the colors are yellow and white?

Thanks...will post picture.

Don't worry, I knew that you were not trying to take credit for someone else picture...from corresponding with you on CC, I have the feeling that you would not do that. thumbs_up.gif

How about doing the top border in white so that is doesn't take away from the flower arrangement and just blends in with the cake?

Do you think she used flower foam to give it dimension and a height? I was just having a hard time because buttercream roses lay flat and you can build up the icing a bit for some height.

Is that greenery buttercream or fondant rolled to look like vines?

I was also wondering why add the sepal part of the rose if it was going to be turned into the cake and not really be seen. I guess so that some empty space where it could be seen the flower would not be nakee!

My guess is that it is a mound of icing under the roses to give it some height..the flowers might have been made from gumpaste or royal, just looking at the way the petals lay. I think the vines and leaves are just BC icing, with some piping gel added.

Thanks!

Now I know what to do. I have never made fondant decorations. I have done it with directions from the Wilton flower cutter set and by reading peoples comments on here. It would be easier to take a class but hey who wants to do that.

I was 100% buttercream only kinda gal but I let the trend get me. I have seen so much with gumpaste and fondant. I had to try it. I am glad I did.
