Some of you may remember that i asked the other day about strawberry imitation flavoring. My customer called today and wants the cake to be purple and green for a halloween themed birthday party!!! How do i do that with strawberry flavoring??? WIll it change the flavor if i add Wilton coloring to it???? How do i get dark purple and green when Wilton's colors seem so pastel?? I have tomake this cake for Satruday not to mention I am traveling 2 1/2 hours with the cake for the b-day party (my brothers). Please help!!!

you can do a yellow or white cake mix and add the flavoring to that.. And then just add coloring to your icing. It should not change anything.. And if your making the cake itself colored purple and green I still don't think that adding color and flavor will change anything.. (I mean flavor will of course) but adding color should not be a problem.. As far as coloring deep purple.. ????
I found these few tips from WILTON.COM
Buttercream icing: (Colors)
Yields all colors. Most colors deepen upon setting. Let icing set 2-3 hours for deep color. Some colors may fade sitting in bright light.
Snow White Icing:
Yields truer colors due to pure white base color. Creates deep colors. Most deepen upon setting
Wilton ready to use decorator white:
Yields truer colors due to pure white base color. Creates deep colors. Most deepen upon setting.

Good Luck!

what if i use a fresh strawberry icing recipe. i tried the imitation flavroing and it sucked so now i think i'm going to have to use fresh strawberries and strawberry puree. Will coloring affect that?

i just made strawberry icing for a cake class cake. maybe if it's a 2 layer cake, just use the strawberry icing for inbetween. i used mccormicks and it tasted ok, now i gave the actual cake to a neighbor, so i cant speak for the finished product, but i did color it lavendar and light green and the colors were just fine, wiltons violet can get pretty dark without having to add too much, maybe use kelly green for the green have fun
