I made buttercream roses for the first time. Some look better than others but at least I'm practicing. Question. How long do they take to dry before putting them on the cake. I am making my youngest granddaughter 1st birthday cake for Oct 1. I will be making a 2 or 3 teir cake. So I thought I'd get a jump start on making the roses. Do I leave them out to dry or do they need to be refrigerated? I really dont want to mess this cake up. Any advise would be greatly welcomed.

I ahve put BC roses on immediately, and I have frozen them and then used them. Both ways have worked fine for me. Maybe, someone with a little more knowledge will help you. Good Luck!

I make roses a week in advance sometimes. I would go ahead and make them as soon you can to allow them to dry and also so you do not have to worry about them. They do not need to be refridgerated. Just keep them in a cool place in your kitchen and cover them with a paper towel.

Do Buttercream roses dry and harden? Thanks!

I would not want to eat a buttercream rose that was dry and hardened. That would probably mean it was stale! I usually make them after I have frosted the cake and put them on right then. I am sure they would freeze just as the buttercream frosting does and be ready to use anytime. The amount of time you can leave them set out would depend on your buttercream recipe. Treat them as you would your frosting for food spoilage.

I have an old assorted chocolate box in the freezer and I make up various colors of BC roses.I then set them inside the little chocolate compartments trays that the boxes have inside.I freeze them!! Then when I have a cake that comes up and I may want to put a few roses on....I have an assortment of already made roses!!

Oh yeah when you take them out to use them you have to work quickly as they soften in about 10 minutes. If they get too soft they are hard to place!!
