I was thinking of making pumpkin shaped petit fours.. want to try the pour over fondant! Can you cut thru a cake with a cookie cutter? Could I just pour 1/2 the cake mix in a 13 by 9 and the other 1/2 in another 13 by 9 so they are not as thick??
Cookie cutters will work (ie if you have the metal ones that are high enough). Yes you can split the layers like that-I have done it before with a 10x15 when doing petit fours too as a matter of fact. Just watch your bake time. The little stem on the pumpkin mite give you some heartburn depending how big your cutter is ie how wide that piece is.
Think about it-jellyroll cakes for example are made thin in a 10x15 typically and rolled. They are nothing but sponge cake.
So If I am using a box cake mix just put one box in a 10 by 15? I am so excited to make these. If they work I can make christmas trees, hearts, etc.
I found a cake pan that had small petit four-sized jack-o-lanterns. I think it was at Michael's last year (end of halloween sale). You would only have to put small amount of batter in them. Then use the quick pour icing.
I was just reading an old magazine the other day that had directions to do it using frozen pound cake, it said to cut them out with cookie cutters with the pound cake still frozen-good luck & have fun!
