Hi,
I am very new to this and I know a lot of you on here can help me with this. My husband is away on Deployment and I want to make him a Welcome Home cake. But instead of a traditional patriotic cake, I want to make a cake with our son's face on it. I want it to say something like Welcome Home Daddy or something similar. If any of you have any ideas that sound better than mine, please let me know. But exactly how would I get the baby's face on the cake. I'm not an artist so any ideas would help. Thanks! - Ken usaribbon.gif

Do you have any way of getting an edible image done? I know here in the states you can get bakeries to do them for you. I know the commissary here does them so maybe if you have one there, they will do it for you. If you don't, maybe you can cover the picture with clear contact paper or have it laminated and place that on the cake. It wouldn't be edible but I don't think Daddy would mind! usaribbon.gif

Hope that helps!

Thank you smileyface,

I thought about that but I want the picture to look like I drew it on instead of the edible image. I would love to try a BCT but I haven't tried those yet. Have you seen any photos of people done in a BCT? I think thats the look I'm going for. But thank you so much for your help. If things don't turn out the way I want, I guess I'll have to buy an edible image, but here in Germany, my choices are very limited.

Hadn't thought about a BCT. I know I have seen a few here, I think they were all black and white. I wonder if you could paint one on fondant using paste or gel colors or something like that. Maybe even use those fine point edible markers I have seen.

I am sure whatever you do, your hubby will LOVE it. Glad he is coming home soon. I looked at your pics (again), just curious is he Navy? My was, he retired in 2001. I remember our deployment days, NO FUN!!

Good Luck!!

You got that right. They aren't fun. Especially when you have kids. He's in the Navy but we are on an army base that happens to have every branch on it. I would love to do the black and white BCT. I haven't tried BCTs before but I have a lot of time to practice. I looked through the galleries because I believe I saw one of Jonnie Depp but now I can't find it. I would like to do something like that but of my son. I might be trying to do something thats a little too advanced for me. Any advice would help!

Yeap, I am glad our days of deployment are over. Lots of missed birthdays, anniversaries and such. Our last duty station was on an Air Force base in Montana. So what was a Navy guy doing in the mountains, LOL. He was on recruiter duty, lol. Can't tell you how many times we were asked that.

Check out this website. She gives TONS of info. It is really great place to learn about BCT, chocolate transfers, gel transfer, cupcake cakes, filling cupcakes and more!

I know I saw a Johnny Depp and an Elvis. I will keep looking and let you know if I find them.

Ken - A lot of graphics programs have an option to turn a photo into a coloring page. It simplifies the image into something you can easily make into a BCT. Here are 2 that I just did in a couple minutes.

If you need help with your graphics, PM me and I'd be happy to help.

Thank you SO MUCH ALI. I was just getting back on here to let you all know that I was able to do what you just did with the pictures. I didn't even know I had this on my computer from my camera. Its not as simple as yours came out, but its black and white and looks like a drawing. When I do my practice BCT this weekend, I'll post it so you all can see it! THANK YOU SO MUCH! I'm so HAPPY RIGHT NOW! - KEN

I don't mean to jump in on your post but if you don't mind me asking. Is there a simple way to turn your pictures into coloring pages? I'm not to PC savvy but I'm always willing to learn.

I'm not too sure. I'm able to do it because of the software I have on my computer from my digital camera. Trust me, I am not a computer genius or anything. I just happened to come across it on my computer. Hopefully there is someone on here that can help you. alimonkey did the same thing. PM her and see if she can help you with the graphics of your pictures.
